Positive: The food was phenomenal and the family who owned it was super sweet. I highly highly recommend booking their Yarapa tour excursion where they take you near Nauta and search for flora and fauna along the Amazon River. We saw by far the most animals on this tour than any other tour close to Iquitos that we also did. There were even wooly monkeys that got on our boat to eat fruit (they were friendly), we saw sloths, toucans, dolphins, monkeys, fished for piranhas, saw so many bird species, etc. that being said, these are wild animals so nothing is guaranteed, however the guides were super great about pointing things out. Whenever they’d spot something they’d circle back around to make sure we could see it. For lunch you stop at a lodge over the water where there is a bathroom. There wasn’t soap though so I recommend getting some soap sheets that dissolve in water online, these were super helpful! (To clarify, at the ecolodge there is soap, but on the Amazon River there is not.) They made us lunch with plenty of food. Since we left so early in the morning they packed us breakfast to eat on the boat when we got there which was nice! Bring soles because they have a small gift shop! ***All photos are from the Yarapa Tour excursion that you have to book separately from your stay.

Negative: The water pressure isn’t the greatest and there’s no A/C but that’s to be expected out in the Amazon! It gets a bit colder at night so sleeping wasn’t an issue and they also had a mosquito net which was awesome. The pool didn’t work for the couple days we stayed but a friend had used that pool plenty of times in the winter so I know it usually does work, not their fault, it happens.

Summary: Authentic Amazon experience, very cool!

Positive: I chose the PuraChata Ecolodge for my post-diet after my time at Nihue Rao Centro Espiritual and I have to say: This place is perfect!! - Food adaptable and super tasty (the "Causa" was way better than in a well-known restaurant in Iquitos-City) - Super friendly and courteous staff! - The rooms were almost new and constructed super sealed. No way for mosquitos to come in. The extra insect protection above the bed was nice to have, but in my room not even necessary. - Everything was clean and well maintained. - There were so many beautiful plants around, the "garden" was in perfect shape. I loved it! It was my third visit to Iquitos and this place was by far the most beautiful place I've seen. I'll come back.

Negative: There's NOTHING to complain about!

Positive: Everything!!!! At the property itself there was a gorgeous pool and we stayed in the most amazing lodge that kept the bugs out but let you listen to the fab sounds of the jungle at night! There are lots of hammocks around to relax when not exploring the rainforest which is fab and the grounds of the property are beautiful and well cared for. We went on a walking tour around where our host Valerie taught us about the different fruits & vegetables growing (that they used in the cooking!) and the medicinal properties of some trees. Valerie our host helped us organise amazing tours around Pacaya Samiria, CREA, Allpahuayo national reserve and Isla de los monos. She was so incredibly helpful with helping us organise transport for the time we were there and flagging down collectivos (public taxis!) for us. The food was FANTASTIC! We are both vegetarian and it’s the best veggie Peruvian food we’ve eaten. All the hosts we met were extremely friendly and welcoming and they spoke to us about their lives (mostly in Spanish just FYI). It was an absolute dream to stay here and we loved it so much - we didn’t want to leave! Thank you Purachata!

Positive: The environment is peaceful and relaxing! The facilities are new and very clean. There are many hammocks to choose from, and in different relaxing locations. Food is included - though it is quite simple. If you have dietary requirements, you should ask if they can be accommodated in advance. You might want to bring your own snacks/fruits as there are not many options in the nearby town.

Negative: The location is a bit far away from Iquitos. I would recommend staying more than two nights to make the distance worth the trip. If you're travelling from Iquitos by collectivo, it is best to ask for the specific map location of where to take the collectivo. The staff only speak Spanish, so Google translate is handy. I was in a three bed dorm but I was the only person. It was perfect for me. But if there were three people, it might be a bit of a squeeze and hot in the room.

Positive: A jungle paradise just outside of busy Iquitos. The eco-lodge is on a beautiful property full of birds, plants, nature sounds, etc. and the pool is such a nice way to relax and cool off. It's very easy to get to via shared car aka colectivo. Some Spanish would definitely help, but with a sense of aventure and Google translate, you'd be fine!

Positive: The staff was very friendly and helpful. Best is to be able to speak at least a bit of Spanish, because English is not their language. But it's a great way to practice your Spanish! Marta took me for a walk in the jungle on the property, so nice! And she was very helpful with arranging transport and a tour to Allpahuaya Mishana and the Manatee Rescue Center. Milagros was very helpful and kind during breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was great! The garden is lovely, and the pool too.

Negative: It's not that I didn't like it, but it's important to know that besides the bungalows, the rooms do not have toilets or showers. They are away from the rooms, a short walk on the deck. There is one bathroom with 2 showers and 2 toilets for women, and one bathroom with the same for men. The bathrooms do not have mosquito screens, nor hot water. All something to consider if it's important to you.
