Positive: After a very long, cold and wet bicycle ride on the Camino Via de Plata, we were warmly greeted by Paloma. In all our years of cycling we have never been so cold and wet and near hypothermia. Paloma was amazing she was so thoughtful and kind. She quickly identified how distressed we were and suggested that we went immediately to our room and had a hot bath/shower and change out of our soaking wet clothes, then she would be able to complete the necessary formalities. We were in no state to do much else. That was such a relief. As we were very late arriving and too late for lunch the lovely gentleman in the bar was able to prepare a simple hot meal for us…a really tasty, imaginative burger. The lady at breakfast the next morning was equally helpful and friendly. She very kindly gave me a chocolate brownie with a candle on the top (when she found out it was my birthday!). During our stay our bikes were stored in a secure place, that was really helpful. The room was extremely comfortable and toasty warm so we were easily able to dry out our soaking wet clothes and shoes etc.

Negative: We don’t like writing negative comments but the breakfast was a huge disappointment for a Parador. First of al the lady on the 2nd morning was surly, unhelpful and seemed to have an attitude., she avoided contact with the guests. This was the complete opposite form the previous morning. We made sure that our communications were in Spanish too. The offer appeared tired, on day 2 Strawberries were rotten and no fresh ones to replace them. Some of the tiny sandwiches were curled up at the edges and the bread was not fresh. We were not confident that the buffet had been freshly prepared that morning or left over from the previous day /days. Also the range of food on offer was poor quality and restricted. This is not the standard you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The hotel itself was beautifully designed and presented but apart from certain members of staff it was not a happy place to be and it had no ‘soul. We put that down to bad or lack of Management. Please ensure your staff are well looked after, they are doing their best and some going over and above expectations.

Summary: Great staff, location and design but breakfast poor and its just another Hotel nothing special!
