Positive: We had a phenomenal stay at PaliGhar. We didn't expect there to be so much to see in the area, but the hosts had ample suggestions and we loved visiting everything from the Kalimpong market to the spectacular local monasteries. At PaliGhar we got to experience local dishes unavailable at restaurants thanks to the talented in-house chef, and we loved just relaxing at the beautifully curated farm and rooms, as well as taking scenic walks in the neighborhood.

Positive: As a solo female traveller, I felt completely safe at this property, surroundings and the town of Kalimpong too. The hosts have trained the staff to very high standards, meaning they are attentive, respectful as well as discreet. ‘What you see is what you get’ is how I would describe the rooms - just as in the pictures - neat, clean, well-appointed and spacious. Running hot and cold water in the taps was quite unexpected but welcome! There’s wifi good enough to do remote work, backup power to charge devices in case of power cuts and plenty of open space to spend your days. The food is par excellence and a lot of the ingredients are sourced from their farm. Just sitting on the veranda, you’ll see a variety of birdlife. The hosts complete the experience at this property, providing personal attention to each guest. They also employ local villagers, which I much appreciated. The accommodation is built in the traditional style, to high sustainability standards. All-in-all, I had a very upscale homestay / farmstay experience.

Positive: It is a beautiful, peaceful environment after the intensity of Varanasi and the small farm has been lovingly created by Kabir and Ahana. The meals are beautiful with local ingredients, if not from the farm itself. Kabir is an excellent host.

Summary: Highly recommended for a short stay, or a longer one if you want to do a couple of guided walks.

Positive: Our stay at PaliGhar was something we will cherish for a long time to come. The property and location is very special with its unique climate and vegetation and sustainable approach to tourism. As designers, we really appreciate the architecture and the tasteful interiors that represent the local materials and building cultures. Kabir and Ahana are such inspiring and warm hosts with a long-term vision for the region and its people. The food, sourced locally (mostly from the PaliGhar farm) is exquisite, so fresh and well curated. You can try various traditional Himalayan dishes, always with a modern twist. The staff are also very friendly and service-oriented. We felt so well looked after. We would recommend this homestay to anyone who wants to have an authentic experience and get to know the slow pace of life in a mountain village. We ourselves hope to return soon.
