Restored and modernised, the house is in a quiet village and makes a comfortable base from which to explore the beautiful Vendee.
The cottage is situated in the quiet and hilly village of Saint Michel le Cloucq, above fontenay le comte, in a peaceful street. The village is on the edge of the forest with many places for walking and cycling. The Vendee apart from its beauty, is filled with history and fine architecture, notably the abbaye de Maillezais and the abbaye royale in Nieul. Niort (30 kms), set on the river sèvre, has a castle built by Henry Plantagenet and Richard the lionheart.
Few kilometers away there is le marais poitevin, also known as the green venice, with its green canals for idyllic boating and fishing.
The great sandy beaches of the atlantic coast are about 50 kms away and you can easily get to the lovely islands of Ré, Aix or Oleron just off the coast.
Only 50 km from the renowned sailing part and beautiful city of La Rochelle. Approx an hour away is Futuroscope, the science and technology theme park near poitiers and the Puy du Fou historic theme park with its day attractions.
The house, awarded 3 stars for comfort and charm, is situated in the quiet village of St Michel le Cloucq, 5 kms from Fontenay le Comte, 50 kms from La Rochelle and the beaches of the Atlantic.
Our cottage is very comfortable for up to 4 people.
It is located in the peaceful setting in the small south Vendee hamlet.
A rustic cottage fully restored to its original appearance, with exposed local stone walls, wooden beams and wooden floors, tiled ground floor. It is furnished with antique French country style furniture. It is comfortable and done with good taste.
The ground floor has a large living/room with a fireplace, a kitchen/dining room, bathroom and separate washroom, utility room, and one double bedroom with en suite shower room.
The upstairs has one double bedroom and one mezzanine bedroom.
There are 2 bedrooms and one mezzanine room. One bedroom is on the ground floor with a large double bed (160cm), TV, DVD player and an en suite with shower, sink and WC. The other bedroom is upstairs with a double bed (140cm). The mezzanine is also upstairs, enclosed on three sides, and has two 3/4 beds (120cm) - an ideal room for children. We provided bedding and we make the beds fresh for when you arrive.
There is 1 bathroom with bath and sink.
There is also a separate WC and an en suite shower room in the downstairs bedroom with shower, sink and WC. Bath towels, hand towels, flannels and bath mats are provided. The bathrooms are fitted electric heated towel rails.
The facilities include satellite TV with English, german, dutch, Spanish, Italian channels, 1 frenchTV, 1VCR, 2 DVD players, telephone, games, dvd and video cassettes, free wifi internet access by wifi.
Fully fitted kitchen with all modern facilities, well equipped with crockery, cutlery and plenty of utensils, kettle, dishwasher, induction hobs, microwaves oven, full oven, fridge, freezer, washing machine.
For a restful and enjoyable stay, you find a private garden, a stone patio with garden furniture, a large outdoor dining area with a purpose built chimney-barbecue, a private garden.
Bathroom towels, house linen, and bed linen is provided, the beds are made prior to arrival. A cot, highchair and baby bath can be provided on request.
A cleaning option is offered to our guests. For 65 Euros, you can delegate the end-of-stay cleaning to us. If you want to fully enjoy your vacation, do not hesitate to ask us during your stay for our cleaning option.

Summary: We were very happy with our stay. Thank you, Chantal and Suzanne, you were the perfect hosts, and we were bowled over by your kindness. The cottage is perfectly suited for families wanting to explore the Vendee and there many excellent attractions nearby. The three outside tables were perfect for al fresco dining and we really appreciated the large garden. The cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable.

Summary: We had a lovely, peaceful time staying at this charming character cottage. The owner lives nextdoor and is very friendly. The property is well looked after and had everything you need for your stay. It's set in a quiet, peaceful village but it's close enough to the region's attractions by car, including the wonderful medieval theme park of Puy du Fou. The beautiful path outside of the back door heads towards the local church and the village play park which our children enjoyed walking along. We would highly recommend staying here.

Summary: When we saw the pictures of the gite on the website we thought it looked absolutely stunning. When we arrived, we discovered that it is much more stunning than in the photographs! It is extremely spacious, very, very comfortable and the village is a lovely quiet location, so it is perfect for that relaxing holiday. It is probably the best equipped gite we have ever stayed in and the beds were extremely comfortable. There is a choice of three areas for outside eating, depending on the time of day and we used all 3 of them! The salle d'été is absolutely perfect for evening barbeques. Chantal, the owner of the gite is a lovely lady, who, with her mother, made us feel so welcome. During the course of the week, we enjoyed chatting to her and maman when our paths crossed. Chantal has put a huge amount of effort into making the gite a beautiful relaxing place to stay and it absolutely deserves to be visited and enjoyed. The village itself is close to many interesting places to visit and is only an hour or so from the coast, so day trips to places like La Rochelle and the Isle de Ré are an excellent idea and there are many gorgeous beaches to visit. The other thing you MUST see if you're looking for a grand day out is the Puy de Fou, again about an hour away. I couldn't begin to describe it - just look it up!! It is quite possibly the best day out. Ever! All in all this was as close to the perfect holiday as you can get. Susan, Julian & Lucy

Summary: This gite is to be recommended to all discerning gite holiday makers. Owned and run by a daughter and her mother who have spared nothing in making the old traditional village house into an extremely comfortable and well appointed place to stay. They were welcoming and generous with a bottle of wine, bread and well stocked fridge to get us going. Large garden equipped with tables, chairs, sun umbrella, bar-b-queue everything anyone could want. Very interesting places to see in the locality and places to eat. All in all a super place. Summary: An outstanding property in a quiet village location. Within easy reach of Fontenay-le-compte, Niort, Parthenay, La Rochelle, the Marais Poitevin and the coast beyond. We were made welcome by Chantal and her mother Suzanne, who live next door, the 2 houses having been in their family for many years.The gite has recently been renovated and modernised to a very high standard, and is a credit to them. Well appointed and comfortable (and refreshing cool inside on a hot day) we have no hesitation in recommending this property. Chantal voiced some concern, about the English not continuing to holiday in France following our 'Brexit' vote, but i think that whilst properties of this quality are available she need have no fears.
