Positive: Gorgeous old building. Has modern facilities, while still keeping its rustic charm (a very difficult balance). The staff were so friendly, kind, and attentive. The food was on another level. The tatami matts are never going to be as comfortable as a luxury mattress set, but they were the most comfortable we’ve experienced and added to the enjoyment of the experience.

Positive: Excellent location near the river. Onsen facilities were varied and the outdoor baths were lovely. The meals were superb and the staff was warm and welcoming. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a peaceful garden view.

Positive: Cannot recommend this ryokan enough. Amazing service, clean rooms, and one of the best service from the staff in my experience (all were exceptionally friendly and helpful). Great attention to detail as well (left our shoes by the heater so when we checked out our feet were nice and warm). The food is also another highlight. Dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. If you’re not a fan of horse sashimi, do not worry, the taste is not strong. Light enough for you to try something new and finish the portion. Onsens were also great. I love how they swap female and male baths depending on the time of day so you can try all they have to offer. There’s also two private baths as well for couples who want to go together. Place is also tattoo friendly (my husband had on his shoulder but it was not brought up). Thanks for an amazing stay!

Positive: A wonderful ryokan in the heart of Kurokawa Onsen. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive, from the moment of arrival to departure. Excellent dinner and breakfast options focusing on local produce. Very clean and comfortable facilities in a traditional setting.
