Positive: The beautiful outlook towards the ocean, quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was tasty with a selection of Indonesian dishes, plus cereals and toast. AC in the room was great. Pipi who worked there was very welcoming and kind. If you are going to the islands the place is very handy to the harbour.
Negative: Where to start? The carpark, gardens and areas around the 'resort' had SO much rubbish. Plastic bottles etc etc littered the entire area. The beach in front of the resort was dreadful, covered in plastic and rubbish. It should be a daily task to remove every last piece of rubbish from the area. There was an ongoing issue with the water, we stayed 2 nights and most of that time had no water for the shower or toilet. Apparently a problem with it being turned off, but if you know that's a problem then full buckets of clean fresh water should be organised ahead of time. Day 2 we were given a large bucket of water to use for a shower but because the water came from a well it had a LOT of gunk floating in it. And mosquito larvae! The mattresses are way past their use by date. Comfortable enough to lie on but the fabric on the top of the mattresses pokes through the sheets and is incredibly irritating to lie on. Drinking water! Everywhere else we have stayed, even the smallest, humblest homestays have had aqua available to refill our bottles so we don't add too much to the plastic problem. None available here. I asked several times and was told 'no refill'. When we checked out they said we could refill. Not acceptable. There was a TV in the room but of course it didn't work. The bathroom needed a LOT of attention, the sink was very dirty, the windowsill and mirror etc have not been cleaned for a LONG time. We have stayed in loads of different places in Sulawesi, Sumatra and Lombok, usually in smaller homestay type places and they've all been fantastic. Clean, welcoming, free of rubbish, aqua freely available etc etc. I'm sorry to say that Oceana was the worst we've stayed in. I'm surprised that it is run by a westerner who I would have thought would work hard to make this place incredible. It's a place for divers but certainly no one would be happy to see the rubbish and never want to swim there.

Positive: Convenient location to the whale sharks and town, tho a long way from airport. Staff, especially Pipi were very helpful.
Negative: Place was a little tired looking. Pool out for maintenance and cleaning so didn’t get to use it. Strong odour in bathrooms.

Positive: We had three wonderful days at the Oceana Dive Hotel in Gorontalo. The hotel is perfectly located for the ferry to the Togian Islands. The beds are extremely comfortable and the breakfast is plentiful. The staff is very helpful and accommodating.
