Positive: Nice location for going to the races. Nice pub at the end of the road (the Flintgate - great food!)

Negative: We didn’t have any curtains in our room so privacy was limited and having lights outside the room didn’t help with sleep. We were a bit underwhelmed by the hotel overall, it looked grander in the photos and on the website. Disappointed to find out breakfast was buffet style, we thought this type of hotel it would be menu ordering and table service. Staff weren’t great - having to find someone each morning for a cup of tea, and bar service was very slow on most occasions too. Maybe the above was due to the hotel having lots of events on over the weekend which they made us aware of, but if we came this way again to the races, we would likely choose a different hotel.

Positive: the surroundings outside the hotel were lovely, on entering the hotel itself is lovely and our rooms were huge with a lovely big comfy bed - I mentioned a few issues to reception and it was dealt with fine. Staff helped with local recommendations too

Negative: the room temperature was fine for me on entering, so I didnt change anything, but in the morning after a lovely sleep, I woke to a really cold room and not very warm shower - I mentioned this to reception as I wasnt able to work the heating/air con unit and make it any warmer I was looking forward a nice cocktail made by staff, and one member of staff was teaching the other member how to make the cocktail - then both members took a straw and put it in to the cocktail shaker to take some of it out to test it - it wasnt unhygenic, I just felt it bad manners, no one asked me, and while I'm sure my cocktail would have been the correct measure, from my point of view the experience of staff making my cocktail and not having the courtesy to let me know they are staff training, or even ask if I mind them testing it out, personally I think a better practice would be to have left some of the cocktail in the shaker and test it once the customer has left, therefore giving the customer a better and more friendly service that a £15 cocktail deserves - I cancelled my cocktail as it wasnt the experience I expected from such a nice hotel and my taxi was due so I had no time to repeat the process

Positive: Room was comfortable and adequate. Good value for money in that area

Negative: Had dinner that night in the hotel as a convenient place but very disappointing. Overpriced and not very good. Dinner is more expensive than the room and very tasteless
