Casa de las Tortugas (House of the Turtles) is a unique, Polynesian and Mexican inspired beach front home with spectacular views. It is located on the white sands of the Gulf of Mexico's Emerald Coast. The color of the ocean can be a beautiful emerald green or the turquoise blue of the caribbean. The house is located in an area called Sunset Beach about 3.5 kilometers or 2 miles from the small fishing village of Sisal. We are very lucky to be able to watch spectacular sunsets as well as sunrises. Sisal was once a major port from which all the henequin fiber known as Sisal was exported to the world. It is now a quiet, safe and friendly village. Sisal has a variety of small stores where you can buy the basics as well as fresh seafood, local fruits, vegetables and tortillas. There are several restaurants mostly featuring seafood as well as typical Yucatecan dishes. We also have good Italian, pizza, ice cream and more. Sisal is about an hour drive to Merida and the airport. Merida is a beautiful safe city overflowing with cultural activities and events. There are free concerts, dances and serenades every day of the week in different parks in the downtown Historical Center as well as a symphony orchestra, museums and art galleries. Within an hours drive from Merida you can visit Mayan ruins, cenotes, haciendas and other beach towns.
Casa de las Tortugas is located in a remote área rich in nature. You can walk for hours on the beaches, collecting many kinds of seashells, go in and out of the calm ocean water and most of the time see no other people. You may see hundreds of butterflies, a wide variety of colorful birds, as well as white and gray pelicans flying by. Casa de las Tortugas faces a Reserve and depending on the time of year and weather, one can see hundreds of flamingoes flying in and out of the Reserve which is an amazing sight and wonderful photographic opportunity.
Casa de las Tortugas has Direct TV that streams from New York and free WI-FI. We clean the pool and patios every morning. Maid service is available every 3-4 days and is included. Service includes making the beds, supplying clean towels and sheets as needed, sweeping and mopping the floors and terraces and cleaning of the bathrooms. Additional days or services can be requested for an additional charge. We will also be happy to set up beach chairs and umbrellas as well as bring you fresh coconuts to drink.
The main living area is located on the second floor allowing guests to enjoy beautiful views of the ocean. This spacious home has both indoor dining for eight people and outdoor dining for eight people on the beautiful screened porch adjacent to the swimming pool and jacuzzi. There is a half bath off the kitchen/dining area.
The kitchen is well equipped with all stainless steel appliances including a dish washer and large pantry. 2 sets of dishes, pretty serving dishes and bowels, rice cooker, blender, extra silver ware, lots of utensils - everything you could possibly need. Bottled water is provided. The house has an open concept living area which includes the kitchen, dining room and living room all with sliding glass and screened doors opening up to a screened in porch with dining and seating areas, large pool deck, infinity pool and heated jacuzzi. The views are spectacular!
This is a four bedroom, four and a half bathroom home with a fully equipped kitchen on the main living area as well as a small kitchen in the third bedroom/apartment and a kitchenette in the fourth studio bedroom. The spacious master bedroom and second bedroom have king size beds and are located on the second level which is the main living area with beautiful ocean views. The third bedroom/apartment is on the first floor and has a partial ocean view with sliding glass doors leading out to a large stone patio and the beach path. The third bedroom includes a private bedroom with built in closet, cabinets, king size bed, bathroom, a small kitchen and living área with an additional double bed for lounging or guests. It has a small refrigerator, gas range and oven and coffee maker. It is perfect for couples or family members that want more privacy. The fourth studio bedroom is also on the first floor and has two twins beds, closet with shelves, bathroom with shower, table and four chairs, and a small efficiency kitchen.
The beach in front of our house is effectively private with white sand and calm ocean waters. You can walk far into the ocean and the water will rarely be above your chest. It is perfect for swimming, kayaking (2 kayaks with life vests are available), and relaxing as you watch the clouds float by and pelicans fly overhead. After your swim in the ocean or walk on the beach, rinse off in the outside shower and step into the infinity pool or spa that looks straight out to the ocean. It is mesmerizing and the answer to a relaxing, special vacation.
The English-speaking property owners live full-time next door. They will welcome and orient you to Casa de las Tortugas, and be on-call to handle any unforeseen issues and provide advice for planning activities during your stay. If your vacation plans focus on just enjoying the property and ocean, airport pickup and grocery shopping can be arranged with the property owners.
