Positive: Absolutely loved our stay here. The apartment was beautiful, large and very comfortable. A very relaxing alternative to a hotel and perfect for small family or two couples. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful with instructions and local knowledge. We used taxi mostly to get around which was very convenient when using the GO app. (Tip. Don't queue in the foreigner friendly taxi line if arriving via Kyoto train station as very slow!) There are about 6 steep steps to access the property if there are mobility concerns.

Negative: Couldn't find the plug for the kitchen sink but the property had everything else!

Positive: Location was great and quiet. The house was very spacious especially the bedroom with the seating area. We really enjoyed having a full kitchen. Mr Mamoru was also extremely attentive and helpful.

Negative: Nothing it was perfect!

Positive: This is truly a gem, best accommodation we ever had in Japan! Beautiful residential neighborhood, very serene with the sound of cicadas. 5-10mins walk to a supermarket and many local restaurants. One large tatami room and a very large western bedroom beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Separate AC in every room which was very appreciated during one of the hottest summers in Japan. Well stocked kitchen and dining room. Two very clean bathrooms and a washing machine that does both washing and drying and has a built-in detergent tank. The host was very friendly and even left us a tablet with marked restaurants in the area. It is 20min walk from Kinkaku-ji temple but you won't see crowds of tourists there, we took Uber to other locations which was very reasonably priced. Wi-Fi worked very well, no complaints from the kids. Two TVs have Netflix and Prime plus other streaming channels we didn't use.

Negative: Nothing, I would give this place more than 10 if I could.

Summary: The best stay we ever had in Japan. Fantastic place!

Positive: Stunning secluded detached property built in the traditional Japanese style but with many modern amenities. Beautiful gardens including tsubo-niwa style courtyard garden. Wonderful warm welcome from the host Mamoru-san. Very peaceful setting down a private road, within walking distance of Daitoku-ji and only a short taxi ride from Ryoan-ji and Kinkaku-ji. Well-equipped kitchen, very high quality washer/dryer, very comfortable beds (a mix of western style beds in a room with wooden flooring and futons in a tatami room). One of the most pleasant places we have ever stayed in.

Negative: Everything was superb! Can't think of anything bad to say.

Summary: Wonderful secluded property with mix of Japanese and Western features. Warm and friendly host.

Positive: Absolutely everything! The host, who occupies an adjacent portion of the house with a completely separate entrance, was overly kind. We were shown around the updated traditional Japanese house when we arrived by his assistant who spoke solid English and also runs a local Okonomiyaki restaurant in the evenings. They helped with any planning questions, had an iPad on hand with a house directory and showing the location of local grocery stores and restaurants, and even left a few cold beverages and snacks in the fridge as a welcome. The house was gorgeous! Even Better in real life than the photos suggest. You are walking distance (15 min) to Kinkaku-ji temple so you can get there very early and beat the hoards of tourists. House is located northwest of downtown Kyoto but it’s a pretty easy subway to bus combo to get there from the main Kyoto hubs. We cooked breakfast and dinner in the house, which was amply stocked with dishes and cookware to support that. We ate dinner out at nearby Chirori (the restaurant that his assistant runs) and it was AMAZING!! Our teens preferred the Yakisoba on the menu but the adults in our group had never had okonomiyaki as lovely as this! Definitely Worth a visit!! Beds were comfortable, rooms were very spacious, and the home was beautiful! I easily could have stayed here a week or longer and not have wanted to leave.

Negative: Only thing to be aware of is that this is not close to the main Kyoto bus/train station. So if you don’t understand the local subway and bus routes you might want to ask for some tips from the tourist office in the main station before you head that way.

Positive: Nachiya was a perfect stay for my family (2 adults and 2 children). It is a beautiful house with an amazing host. The property itself is spacious and exceptionally well-kept. A traditional place to stay with modern conveniences. The host recommended restaurants nearby and sites that were less crowded in the neighborhood. He and his staff were amazing. We would love to come back and stay again!

Positive: Exceptional Japanese style living quarters, very spacious with beautiful view of the garden and atrium. Western style master bedroom with TV and Netflix. Second tatami/ futon style bedroom. Air conditioning in every room makes it possible to turn it off in bedroom itself. Supportive owner who provides very good recommendations. Pictures show exactly what to expect.
