“Mesa Shred” is located off a private dirt road nestled atop a beautiful little canyon. It’s only 10 minutes outside of Cortez but you’ll forget how close you are when you’re enjoying this relaxing country living. Whether your idea of fun is an epic adventure or just kicking back then this is the place for you. Phil’s World mountain bike trails are right in your backyard. It’s currently rated top 5 mountain bike trails in the country by mountain bikers! Riders of all skill level will be stoked to shred these trails especially when you can pedal from your front door. The house is on 6 acres with amazing views of Mesa Verde, the La Plata’s and surrounding mountains. Great central location for visiting local attractions like Mesa Verde, Dolores, Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride and Moab as well as enjoying outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, hunting, rafting, kayaking, skiing, snowshoeing and of course biking. The fairgrounds are also located right across the highway. You can enjoy the county fair, rodeo, car races, demolition derby and carnival.
The house has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen, dining area and bonus room. The master bedroom has a queen bed, walk-in closet and TV. The master bathroom has a granite countertop vanity, large walk-in travertine shower with bench and heated flooring. The second bedroom has a queen bed and smart TV. The second bathroom has a granite countertop vanity with glass bowl sink and travertine tiled shower with a tub. The living room has a couch with chaise lounge and pull-out bed. It also has a reclining chair with foot rest and smart TV. The kitchen has granite countertops with bar seating for 3, stainless steel farmhouse sink, dishwasher, stove, microwave and refrigerator. It also comes equipped with all your cooking needs as well as a coffee maker, tea pot, toaster, blender and hand held mixer. The dining area has a table with seating for 4. The bonus room has a pool table, couch, 4 bar stools and TV.
The patio has a propane BBQ and patio table with seating for 4. There’s also an amazing deck off the bonus room with patio furniture to relax and enjoy the gorgeous views, wildlife, sunrises, sunsets and stars. Don’t miss the moon rise if there’s a full moon during your stay!
The bedrooms and bonus room have blackout blinds for guests wanting to sleep in on their vacation getaway. The house sleeps 6 with 2 in master bedroom, 2 in second bedroom and 2 on sofa sleeper.
If you don’t feel like cooking, there are several restaurants to choose from in Cortez, Dolores and Mancos.
The property is located on a private dirt road and therefore, is not county maintained. Four Wheel Drive (4WD) or All Wheel Drive (AWD) is required during winter months. Summary: I have stayed a numerous VRBOs, but this has to be one of the top 3 nicest places we have rented. The view alone is 5 stars. The house itself is very nicely finished, extremely clean, and feels very welcoming. Don't let the outside fool you, the inside is very clean, airy, and welcoming. The host goes above and beyond with little touches for travelers and dogs visiting the Mesa Shred house. Sunscreen, bug bite cream, dog bowls, etc. are just to name a few. They reset the door code for each stay which is a welcome security measure. Love this place and will rent again. Phil's World is a must do for any Mountain Biker in the area and it is just a mile from the door.

Summary: Wow, the photos do not do this property justice! Full disclosure, we are “back porch” people, and holy wow this back porch was one for the ages. 270deg views of Mesa Verde and The Rockies, with literally nothing man-made in sight. Stunning. And just 3 miles from town. Inside, the accommodations are solid, thorough, and generous. We didn’t notice anything that we wish had been there. Great lighting, well-outfitted kitchen, basic bathroom supplies that were not el cheapo at all, a nice notebook about the property and environs (thanks for the restaurant tips!), comfortable bedding and linens. Just right for our 5 night adventure “base camp.” Top it off with friendly and helpful communications, and this is 5 star all the way. We are already plotting our return!

Summary: We had a fabulous stay. The property is beautiful in a lovely remote area. Owners do an excellent job of making sure the house is stocked with necessities to make a comfortable stay. Yes, it is a rough dirt road as everyone says but as long as you take it slowly, easily traversed. Proximity to Mesa Verde and Canyon of the Ancients and Yellow Car Country Wines is exemplary. We even had a light snow the morning we were leaving and got to see a beautiful winter wonderland. Would definitely stay again if I were in the area and highly recommend!

Summary: Don't let the rugged exterior fool you, THIS PLACE IS BEAUTIFUL!! We loved our stay at Mesa Shred. The inside is clean and decorated so cute. We had everything we needed to cook. And i can say being the 3rd person to shower each day there was always plenty of hot water to go around. We loved sitting on the patio and watching the eclipse (highlight of our trip) it's in a perfect location for visiting Mesa Verda and Durango and Cortez is just a couple miles away for quick runs into town. It's so peaceful and quiet, no cars driving by or street lights or noisy neighbors. We'd go outside at night and look at the stars and milky way, listen to crickets bask in the beautiful scenery all around and just be in the moment. We'd gladly stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful trip.
