Positive: This was a different and most enjoyable overnight experience. We were guests in David's home, quite literally. He told us about the history of the manor and his family's labour of love to restore it, showed us around the buildings, arranged a restaurant for our evening meal, and gave us good advice about a lovely day trip including Carrouge, Sees, Fresnay, St Suzanne and St. Ceneri. Nice room, comfortable bed and nice breakfast with home-made rhubarb jam!
Negative: This is not your typical overnight stop in a standard hotel. If you're looking for a "front desk and receptionist", then this is maybe not for you. But if you want to feel like a valued guest at a historic manor with period features being lovingly restored, your luck is in! We will remember our stay fondly.

Positive: A good place to stop on our return journey to Caen.
Negative: Sadly Frederick has passed away and David his son is the owner and was absent. His housekeeper Murielle let us in and returned to do breakfast but we were left alone overnight with no access to the main building.

Positive: This is a wonderful old building which we understand is now run by the family of the old owner who has passed away. I the building is like an antique shop, it’s full of history but also alongside a rather shabby interior. It’s obviously had money spent on the outside and the roof is wonderful. We had a tower room which was absolutely huge, but it came with some cobwebs, a shower room in which you needed to stand in the shower to look into the mirror and a sink set into a nightstand in the bedroom . It’s best to describe is as quirky. We didn’t meet the owners as they were not on site when we arrived nor when we left the next morning. We shared breakfast with another travelling couple who had stayed before and remembered the original owner - they felt it hadn’t changed in the period since they last stayed. It’s not somewhere I would go out of my way to stay in - but the small town is quite pleasant and lovely due to its University population .
Negative: I find it difficult to reconcile the frankly fantastic reviews earlier written. The truth is that whilst the hotel is quirky, it is more like an antique shop than a hotel and it is of course someone’s home so it’s not likely to suit everyone. There are many small things that could be done to improve it that would not cost a fortune to implement but which I guess the current owners may look at down the line. Flaking plaster on the stairwell, cobwebs in part of the bedroom, shutters that done open and others that don’t close, somewhat strange objects D’art that some would describe as junk and others such as a wall having that had so many holes in it that it looked like it was about to disintegrate. People talk of the wonderful breakfast - ours consisted of perfectly good coffee and two croissants and what was left of a French roll passed by our neighbours. Because we arrived late and our messages didn’t get through we were greeted by a kind guest who let us in as the owner had to go out. All in all it was ok but it was I think overpriced for what it is and depending on which room you get is not that comfortable. Though the bed is huge and indeed provided a much needed rest. Perhaps if we had not driven almost 600 miles to get there we may have been slightly less critical. But 4 stars it is not.
Summary: Interesting but I would not drive out of the way to stay.

Positive: Lovely host, very helpful and friendly and made us feel very welcome. Beautiful countryside and interesting building with a lot of original features.
Negative: We visited in winter and I don't think that is best time to visit as it was very wet and we were unable to enjoy the lovely location. I think this would be a great place to visit in summer rather than in winter.
Summary: Great host, interesting place.

Positive: The host looked after us fantastically well as it was New Years Eve and little option for restaurants that night. David and Martha prepared a lovely meal. The house is full of character.
