Positive: The room was large. The setting is charming. The location is great. The beautiful smile and willing service of Shanti (maid).

Negative: Kiran Rao, owner does a fabulous job in all the rooms EXCEPT the biggest - Deluxe Double Room with Balcony - which felt like an unrenovated collection of leftover shabby old furniture. The balcony is used as storage for 2 filthy chests of drawers - Why? The kitchen was not appointed (no cooking equipment, cutlery or crockery) so basically useless. The bed pillows were rock hard and extremely uncomfortable. The breakfast was the same each morning. We didn't like the cheap white bread so asked for paratha on day 3. The chef was happy to oblige but management cancelled it the next morning despite our USD 300 per night spend. So my husband got on the back of one of the staff's bikes and bought bread at a local bakery to bring back. Kiran's other Puducherry properties had glaring problems with staff attitude, especially the dress shop Chintz and the restaurant Coromandel Cafe. Worst service I have experienced in any restaurant anywhere in the world ever literally. Sullen disgruntled waiters who were glued to their phones in front of the patrons throughout service. It was impossible to grab their attention without calling out loudly - frankly it was an utter disgrace. This comes from management. I was told that Rao prioritizes profit over customer satisfaction and drives her restaurant staff to get rid of customers quickly so the next lot can come in. Hopefully you read this Kiran. It's not ok.

Summary: Deluxe Double Room with Balcony is expensive for such a disappointing experience.

Negative: We were travelling for religious purposes and if we got late in coming back. Even a regular Cole or fresh lime. Basic biscuits or fruit were also not available. The day we were leaving I fell V sick. Every 10 mins o was vomitting. No help Whatsoever by the staff. They were ready to throw our luggage and us out.
