Stunning Craftsmen Carriage House apartment highlighted by hardwood floors and Stickley arts & crafts style area rugs throughout, located on premiere street, Janssen Place, in the Hyde Park neighborhood, an area of Kansas City comprised of turn-of-the-century mansions built by wealthy lumber barons and other industrialists. The carriage house is a free-standing structure, located about 100 ft behind its mansion, and is part of the nearly one acre property, one of 19 properties on the street, all with historic mansions and many with carriage houses. The apartment is on the second floor of the carriage above the parking spaces for 4 vehicles, one of which is available to our guests. Janssen Place is a divided street with a wide median and is accessed from 36th Street, between Cherry and Kenwood Streets through a grand entrance monument. The street has historic lighting and beautiful landscaping. This luxurious two bedroom apartment above the 4 car garage, has a gourmet kitchen with Jenn-Air stove, dishwasher and frig, has been lovingly restored, giving great attention to incorporating the Arts & Crafts decorating style (including an extensive McCoy art pottery collection with reference books), comfortably sleeps 4 (a queen size bed in each bedroom with memory foam mattresses) and is available for Corporate, Vacation & Short Term Rental.
Property has a partial exterior surveillance system for guest security.

There is a large flat screen "smart" TV with streaming services in living room, easy to access wireless Internet service powered by Google, another "smart" television in primary bedroom.
Great midtown location offers easy access to area attractions including Plaza shopping district, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Union Station, Sprint Center ..... etc. Also convenient to UMKC & KC Art Institute campuses, and just a short drive to KU Medical Center.
For our dog guests, we have a nice fenced in green area behind the carriage house, so that dog guests can have outdoor time on their own, as long as they aren't "barkers". Our neighborhood is full of dog walkers with the only requirement being that the dogs be on a leash and their owners pick up their dogs' droppings. Dogs must not be left alone unless crated.
Since our property has a FIRM CANCELLATION POLICY (no refund for any reason whatsoever including COVID-related reasons for cancellations with less than 30 days notice, 50% refund for cancellations with 31-60 days notice), it is highly recommended that guests purchase travel insurance as offered by VRBO and other vendors.

Summary: The carriage house is a cozy, delightful little getaway spot that suited our family of four (with a toddler and 8-year-old) just right. The space has clearly been cultivated with care and attention to detail, with everything we could've possibly needed. Summary: The property is excellent and it is obvious that the owners invested themselves in curating the house just so with mission style design and collectibles. It was a joy to spend time in this house and the surrounding area is also very beautiful that is rich in history.

Summary: This is a beautiful area to stay. There were 4 of us and we walked and felt safe. But the Carriage House itself was dark, dungy, unswept, and grimy. The floors were filthy, there was no water pressure in the kitchen or bathrooms, and only 2 rolls of toilet paper. When we asked for more toilet paper, it was like being interigated on how we were using it. Barbara did finally bring us 2 more rolls. Four sisters in their 60-70's, 4 days, and 2 bathrooms. We didn't think we were overusing. The jetted tub was unusable because the jets were black and moldy. The bedrooms are small, which is fine but the 'master' bed only had about 4 inches on either side to get in. I kept hitting my leg on the bed frame which was larger than the bed. I ended up getting stitches. The floors in the kitchen are very squeaky and they weren't swept in ages. We swept while there to make it feel cleaner. Barbara told us it was because the Carriage house was so old but obviously these were not done correctly. We use VRBO a lot and have never encountered this with older homes. There were few places to sit in the living room, we went out on the balcony to play cards. (which we brought) The lighting, although beautiful, is very dim, making it difficult to see. This was supposed to be a relaxing and inspiring time for sisters. We were asked where we were going every day without purses & walking; it fell invasive. It was not relaxing unless we went elsewhere. Never again will we go here.

Summary: Traveled to KC to hang out with my son for Spring Break and watch NCAA basketball tournament. Location and amenities were perfect for my visit. The neighborhood is very similar to the Swiss Avenue neighborhood in my hometown of Dallas. Very close to everywhere we wanted to go. I’ve been to KC many times and will definitely look to stay here again on future visits.
