Stay in a beautifully renovated monument in the heart of the old town of Monschau - an original Monschau house with the ambience of the old times: half-timbered, oblique walls, wooden floors and an old staircase testify, but today of course with modern comfort. In Haus am Holzmarkt Clemens August and Mathilde Breuer, the founders of the Historical Mustard Mill Monschau, once lived with their 8 children. "Ömchen Mathilde" now serves as a name for the lower apartment, named after her daughter Guste Amalia, "Tant Jusschen", the upper apartment is named. The first mustard was made here in the basement, at the beginning still with a mortar.
In this house are two apartments each with about 72sqm developed, ideal for 2-4 persons. In the living rooms there is also a comfortable sofa, TV and WLAN. In the kitchen you will find beside the stove and oven also a dishwasher, a microwave, as well as a coffee machine and a water cooker.
Monschau and the surrounding area are beautiful. Here you will find everything your heart desires: history, culture, nature, sport and of course enjoyment - not least in our historic mustard mill.

Summary: This property was perfect! Ruth and her son are fabulous hosts for this very special and unique property. I booked this site because it was a little out of the way of the F1 race and appeared to be vey unique. It did not disappoint! The restaurants and community were perfect. I had let Ruth know in advance of our plan to attend the race but needed information regarding transportation. We were so surprised when she found another person who had a vehicle and was attending the race so we could ride with them. It was a great experience all around. Thank you so very much.

Summary: This charming German apartment is in a perfect central location to all things in Monschau! Incredibly clean and true style to the area. We traveled here with my middle 20 year old son and we loved exploring this town and it’s quaint shops, restaurants and sites. We also drove around the Eiffel area and explored the national park. Perfect for a weekend getaway!

Summary: We've had a great stay in Monschau. We came for a motorcycle trip and the apartment was perfect for this. The check-in was seamless, Ruth was very friendly and accommodating and the apartment was clean, spacious and ideally located in the city center.

Summary: We had an amazing time in this old house in Monschau and Ruth is an extraordinary host. We stayed there for a week during Christmas and New year holidays with a 9 month old baby. The house is recently renovated and has all modern amenities you need, but also has an extraordinary charm and history in it. It is centrally located and close to shops and restaurants but also many mild trails for walking in nature. Perhaps unintentionally but it is very child friendly place, our daughter crawled up and down all day long, climbing the wooden beams and enjoying it. Ruth went extra mile in her hospitality and arranged transport for us going back to Aachen to catch a train (having in mind there was a proper winter storm that day, we appreciated this even more). We highly recommend visiting SenfMuhle as well, it is one of the main historical attractions in Monschau, the mustard is very tasty and the store offers a complete gastronomic experience. We will be surely coming back here in the next years once our daughter is bigger and can enjoy the place more!

Summary: This is very pleasant and creatively renovated apartment in the picturesque town of Monschau. We stayed over one night with three young children and it was very comfortable space. The apartment is beautiful and well appointed, stylish, functional and clean, and it has everything one needs for longer stay as well. We loved hearing the bells and walking around the village through narrow streets and bridges over wild water. The only reasons why we are giving four rather than five stars is that it was rather cold - which was an issue with young children on a frosty night in December - the house warmed up relatively quickly initially but the heating went off at some point in the evening unfortunately and given it is an old house with single glazed windows it was rather drafty and cold during the night... But this would not be an issue on a warmer night. Another caveat, the advertised WLAN (wi-fi) is actually a village WLAN that is extremely poor in strength (impossible to even send an email). Otherwise it is a wonderful place!
