Built in a traditional Vendeene style, Les Peupliers is our much-loved holiday home situated in the unspoilt hamlet of La Baffardiere which forms part of a protected area of outstanding natural beauty, within the River Yon Nature Reserve.
The property sits in a quiet lane with no through traffic, from where there are many walks and cycle rides through wooded lanes and paths down to the River Yon. The pretty village of Le Champs St Pere is only a short drive or bike ride away, where you will find a supermarket with petrol station, pharmacy, bakery, bar and a market in the village square in Thursday mornings. 20 minutes to the North of Le Champs St Pere is the thriving university town of La Roche Sur Yon, and equidistant to the South is the historic, cathedral town of Lucon.
The villa itself is decorated and furnished to a very high standard and is equipped with everything you might need during your stay. There is a large, bright, open plan living space with comfortable seating, a dining table and chairs for 6 guests and 3 sets of french doors leading to the pool and terrace areas. The 3 good-sized, double bedrooms comprise of 1 king and 2 twins (1 of the twin rooms can be arranged as a superking) and all have comfortable beds with quality mattresses, lots of storage space and dressing tables with mirrors and lights over. There are 2 full bathrooms (1 is en-suite) and all bed linen and bathroom towels are provided. All rooms have fans and there are also hairdryers and complimentary toiletries. On arrival you will find your beds made ready, along with a welcome hamper to get your holiday off to the best start!
The wonderful outside space is fully enclosed and totally private. There are 2 outdoor dining areas, one by the pool and the other under the pergola overlooking the garden. The walled pool terrace is furnished with sun beds, cushions and parasols and the heated pool is fully maintained and equipped with an electric safety pool cover. To the rear of the house there is a full-size table tennis table.
In terms of things to do and see in the area, the list is endless and there's lots of information at the villa along with maps and directions. There are wine tasting tours, horse riding, canoeing, go-karting, sailing, the O'Fun Adventure Park, and the O'Gliss Water Park all available locally.
Slightly further a field are the historic cities of La Rochelle and Nantes, both very cosmopolitan and well worth a visit.
The nearest beach is at Longeville (approximately 20 minutes away), and there are also lots of surfing beaches offering a variety of watersports too. La Tranche (30 mins) , Les Sables d'Olonne and St Gilles de Croix are all lovely seaside resorts, with trendy shops, bars and restaurants as well as fantastic beaches. The coast is straightforward to get to, with very little traffic even in high season.
PLEASE NOTE: Our rental prices are structured according to the number of guests, which helps to make it attractive to couples and small families as well as larger groups. The number of beds prepared and towels provided equate to the number of guests as this also helps to cut down on unnecessary laundry.

Summary: This was our 4th stay and it didn't disappoint. We last stayed here 10 years ago, can't believe its been that long but it was so nice to be back. The addition of the electric pool cover was a bonus. The villa is equipped with everything you could want and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to be in the Vendee area.

Summary: We are regular visitors to France every summer for the last 30 years and this property is one of the best we have ever stayed in. Clean, well equipped ( especially the kitchen!) and loads to do around the area. Super comfy beds coupled with being very quiet resulted in excellent rest after fun days out exploring an amazing area. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Summary: Fantastic place to stay and a beautiful Gite in a very quiet location. Ideal for the beaches, and other spots to visit in the area. Outstanding facilities and a lovely pool. Nice touches in the house which make you feel really at home. Absolutely no issues with anything and would certainly book again.

Summary: Les Peupliers is perfect. After 25 years of staying in excellent places all over France, this is the best. The pool is amazing, everything in Les Peupliers is well maintained and excellent quality. As well as relaxing by the pool we enjoyed days out in nearby costal resorts and inland towns. Summary: Really enjoyed our stay at this immaculately clean property with great facilities and in an ideal location. Communication in advance our our stay was perfect with some good local recommendations as well as the usual complexities of the French recycling rules. The pool was lovely and being heated was a real bonus on a couple of days where the weather was less than perfect. In terms of the accommodations it was spacious with a good sized kitchen that was well equipped for English tastes (proper sized mugs for a morning cup of tea) and plenty of glasses and cups to avoid constant washing up. Washing machine and a washing line was also helpful to avoid taking too many clothes. The location is good being less than half an hour from the closest beach, close to roads that are quiet enough to cycle with the kids but not too far from the massive hypermarkets at La Roche sur Yon. Easy to find on Waze too when we first arrived. We would happily stay here again! (And sorry we didn’t get time to write in the guest book but we had the stress of a car breakdown on our last day!)

Summary: Julia and Simon's perfect property is located in the lovely green Vendée countryside. Get in the car and in less than 5 minutes you will be in Le Champ St Père, a little village with a chemist, baker, hairdresser and a Carrefour Contact supermarket (a bit like a Tesco express). Drive about 10 minutes either east or west and you will find two little towns with more shops and people to talk to! Mareuil-sur-Lay has a great Intermarché supermarket, with a great Butcher section. We do recommand the Boulangerie in Mareuil too: easily the best croissants in the area (and that's a Frenchman telling you!). Les Peupliers is as described in the advert, if not better! Nothing is missing, and it is so nice to have everything you may need. I love to cook and all was there. The cooking hob is easy to use - so is the charcoal barbecue. All appliances are in perfect working condition. The swimming pool is clean and always at the right temperature. The property is completely secure, which was a massive plus for us as our son is autistic and we didn't have to worry about him wandering around. Beds are comfy, great bathrooms and both internal and external common areas are perfect for chilling. Communication with the owners, and their local representative Natalie, was incredibly easy before, during and after. On arrival day, we could not help but notice how clean and welcoming the house was. The "treat tray" waiting for us in the kitchen was the icing on the cake. Merci pour tout Les Peupliers!
