Positive: “Door is open - please slide” - and you enter into a magical place which is different to anything you will have experienced before. Its simplicity where everything is so beautiful and has its meaning and purpose breathes calm. It provides the perfect setting for a visit to mystical Koyasan. And you will be the only guest(s)! I loved the space filled with art and design, the super/cosy bed, the bath-salt and masks, the felt-slippers, the little garden, and of course the heavenly organic breakfast provided by the owner Paola including really good Italian coffee.

Positive: Koyasan Space is a beautiful, authentic place to stay, sparkling clean, thoughtfully decorated and incredibly welcoming. It has so much character, and coming back after a day exploring Koyasan genuinely felt like coming home. A huge part of that is Paola, who is an exceptional host. She went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and welcome, and was incredibly thoughtful, considerate and responsive. One morning she even made me manousheh for breakfast because I’m originally Lebanese, which was such a lovely and personal touch. She’s also simply fascinating to spend time with. Our conversations ranged from Spirituality, Japanese culture and Chinese medicine to travel, whisky and coffee, usually accompanied by something delicious to try. Being half British and half Italian, she somehow combines British enthusiasm for a good drink with impeccable Italian taste. Staying here also gave me the flexibility to experience Koyasan more broadly. Rather than having my stay centred around a single temple, I could explore different temples, ceremonies and experiences at my own pace. Paola and Koyasan Space weren’t just part of my stay, they genuinely added to the beauty and magic of my experience in Koyasan.

Positive: The host Paola was so caring and kind! Very clean and cooked food for me often. Was thoughtful and made my experience in Koyasan amazing!
Negative: The shower was pretty far away from my room.
Summary: Would definitely book again if I am in the area! Incredible and great for a short stay.
