Positive: Perfect location on the water and very walkable to all the major sights. Staff was excellent. They have a translation service for non-Japanese speakers. Shuttle service to the train stations in town.

Negative: The food is a traditional Japanese set menu, which was of high quality, but not the best for our Western Kids. Dinner also takes place over 2 hrs, which is tough with younger children. However, you can chose to not select the half-board option.

Summary: Great Ryokan in the center of Matsushima, but maybe don’t do the meal option if you have young kids or are on the go.

Positive: Free access to their lounge bar, excellent sunrise view from the foot onsen platform.

Negative: Inconvenient location, though they have transport bus. Onsen is not clean as water is not flowing down from the drainage, instead it flowing back as the drainage seems choked all the time

Positive: The view! Staff unbelievably friendly . Nice afternoon macha tea and local cakes .

Negative: Just know that the breakfast is TOTALLY Japanese cuisine . Not that I did not like this about the property but just be aware .

Positive: A gorgeous place to stay with a sensational view. Komatsukan Kofutei is a short walk from all the attractions of Matsushima but has a peaceful ambience. The food was delicious!

Positive: Wonderful experience that was definitely the highlight of this trip. Very spacious and comfortable room. Great bath. Professional and courteous staff. By mistake I forgot to book dinner, but they were able to accommodate me at the last minute - and the food was exceptional. And the views are even better in person.

Negative: The curtains in the room didn't block the morning sun particularly well. It's a bit of a walk from the station so do make sure to use the shuttle bus service.
