Positive: The view from our room on the top floor was breathtaking. Room was spacious and clean as a whistle, Close to the station. Staff friendly and helpful.

Negative: As a newcomer to this fabulous country, was a bit intimidated by the protocols for the baths.

Positive: Hotel was fancier than the price suggested. Everything was clean and nice, if somewhat old style. Views over Beppu also quite nice. Spa was large enough. However I still answered no when asked if I would recommend this for a romantic stay. For that, I guess the location and views should be different. Kamenoi has a convenient location near the train station, but it's not that romantic. Also, the south side of Beppu city is ok, but not that romantic. I was happy though because I wasn't after romance this time. Buffet breakfast had a really good selection of local specialities, Japanese dishes and western options. Didn't try the optional Japanese breakfast as we only stayed one night.
