Positive: The room was beautifully appointed and was perfect for our brief holiday. The photos don't do justice to how nice the room was. The property as a whole was attractive and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We loved soaking in the hot springs. The hotel provided everything we needed.

Negative: The hotel was the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately, the town of Beppu didn't interest us much. The "hells" are geological marvels, but the facilities around them were kitchy and touristy.

Summary: We'd definitely stay at Hana Beppu again, but not sure Beppu itself is worth the trip.

Positive: It’s a true ryokan experience, delicious food and very friendly and attentive staff. A lot of thought has been put into making the experience of staying here great and memorable, lots of small details which make it a pleasure to stay. The onsen is also amazing and very much fits perfectly into the entire experience. I will definitely come again as among the ryokans in the Beppu city area this is a contender for the best considering the reasonable and fair price.

Negative: I guess you should probably not stay longer than 3 nights with breakfast and dinner, since the breakfast although it is extremely delicious does become a bit samey. Same for the dinner which is absolutely amazing, however, it seems that after three nights the meal plan wraps around as I was served the same meal on the last night as on the first, which is a very small complaint as it was still delicious but you should be aware of it if you book the full experience for more than 3 nights.
