Positive: The pool in the jungle was so beautiful. The room looked right out onto the pool and it was really nice. Super quiet and tranquil. They had a swing and games for the kids in the little outdoor restaurant, which was very nice!

Negative: The road to get in was very steep and un paved and was hard to get the car in and out. There were dead insects in our shower, but the location is a bit more remote and rustic so I’m sure that’s just the way it goes sometimes.

Negative: Had to take a run up the driveway as the gravel was deep and the tires on our rental car were completely bald, not a big deal

Positive: Some previous negative reviews almost dissuaded me from staying here, but I’m very glad I took a chance. If you want an ostentatious luxury resort, this is not the place for you. But if you want a charming, rustic, clean, comfortable stay with hot showers, cool a/c, and a tender delicious steak dinner, all reasonably priced, this is your place. Did I mention the beautiful setting? As a bird watcher, I enjoyed seeing the Roadside Hawk, tanagers, and woodcreeper. Another plus, Chacchoben Archaeological Zone is a 20 minute ride away.

Negative: Signage to the hotel isn’t great. Don’t be dissuaded by the bumpy gravel road.

Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable, rustic retreat.

Positive: It is Lovey rustic and tranquil. Wifi The wifi works, it cut out momentarily a couple of times and is a little slow but works. Showers The rooms are peaceful and the view from your bed is pretty and private and makes you feel like you’re in a fancy tree house. I spent hours just contemplating life on the hammock listening to the rain and jungle sounds. The rooms are spacious and the showers have warm water. Staff Staff were friendly. Tip If your AC doesn’t work, just ask and they’ll flick a switch in reception. In the restaurant lounge area, put the fan on to keep mosquitoes away. You’re in the jungle, take bug spray and snacks.

Negative: Location It is not in Bacalar town, it is in Buenavista 25 mins drive away. Buenavista is in Bacalar province. Tours that pick up from Bacalar will not pick you up from here. Outside the ADO bus stop in Bacalar you can hail any of the mini buses and share a ride to the hotel. My minibus dropped me very close to the hotel, about 3 min walk away. I did Bacalar to Buenavista for MX35 - taxis wanted to charge MX450 from Bacalar to Buenavista and MX600 return. It’s quite a walk from the hotel to the high way to hail a minibus. The food was just ok. The pool was murky. Had it been clean (I don’t mean free of leaves, we are in the jungle, I can handle that) I would have stayed longer. But without a nice pool to cool off in, the heat and humidity were just too much. I think if the pool was looked after more and looked like the photos, people would stay longer and recommend the place. The bathrooms wooden taps were rotten and need replacing, I didn’t want to touch it or use the water that came out from it.

Summary: Could be an ideal place with a little bit of attention to detail.

Positive: Amazing place for chill and relax in the middle of jungle. Seriously unbelievable place. The road to the hotel does not reveal the beauty of it, but it’s worth to drive through. Fully recommend.
