Negative: When I booked the hotel through booking.com I wrote that I would need to have access an hour early than the normal 3 pm checkin to get ready for the wedding at 4. I explained that we would make up the time by checking out early. I called on Thursday just to make sure that they could accommodate us. First I spoke to corporate Hilton who transferred me to the Hilton Garden inn Kent island marina. The woman at the hotel said they have many weddings but they will try to accommodate my family and she would make a note of it. When we got there the women said two rooms wouldn’t be ready until 3 o’clock. They gave us 1 room but it was 11 of us trying to get ready in one room. 3 o’clock rolled around and I went down to the front desk to check in for the other two rooms before leaving to the wedding. The other two rooms were not available at check in time at 3 pm. I explained to the woman that I had called on Thursday and explained the situation to make sure and said she would note my account. The woman at the front desk said well you didn’t speak to me. I wasn’t here. I said well it’s check in time now and it’s not ready and now I’ll have to check in after the wedding. I told her I would Contact Hilton regarding this. At the same time, they also gave the wrong room to a couple and the front desk man chased them down to get the room card back and another couple was upset because the king room that they booked was not going to be available. It was a total mess. When I went to check in at 10:30 pm the night desk man said they upgraded your rooms. It really didn’t matter because we were leaving at 7 am and the band playing outside played loud music until 1:00 am making it unable to sleep.

Positive: comfortable bed and pillows, quick response to issues we encountered in our room, good location and nice view from our room. grounds were nice.
Negative: Even though they say they renovated, There were some areas that looked rusted or moldy. I booked a King balcony room, and they gave us a 2 queen room. Had to go back to the desk and inform them they gave me the wrong room. I was told the manager “gave away my room to someone else” Took a while to get me the room category I reserved. When we got to the room the closet door was stuck closed, there was no ironing board and the AC unit was coated in dust and one of the bedside outlets and USB were not working! We alerted them and they did take care of most of the issues (except the outlet) quickly and politely. Also, we upgraded and paid for daily breakfast. We are not early risers so we made breakfast around 9:00am (breakfast is until 10am) It was a fair breakfast. Problem was the decaf was cold EVERY day of our stay. I told the attendant who made a new pot but that took a while to get my coffee. Some of the food was cold, or empty. We had to ask each day if they could refill it. Isn’t the attendant supposed to watch and keep it filled for guests? We heard her complain to another guest that “they are getting a LOT of free breakfast vouchers!” Lady… It wasn’t free! We pre paid for them. Other hotels (Comfort Inn in Chincoteage) Do it right!! Offer free breakfast, offer a lovely spread, keep the coffee OUT and filled all day, (BTW those coffee decanters Hilton had were gross!!! Replace them for Gods sake!) Comfort Inn offered free cookies and have an infused water downstairs daily for guests! They gave us the impression they valued us. We got 2 bottles of water in the room with a hanger it that said “free for silver, diamond, etc.. but 3$ for everyone else !” lol.. Great incentive to come back. This hotel gave me the vibe that they were nickel and dimeing everything and cutting corners everywhere they could. Maid service every other day, Refilled bottles of shampoos (How do I know if anyone put something in those) Overall I was not impressed and would not return.
Summary: adequate hotel that cuts corners to save a buck and didn’t make us feel like valued guests.
