Helm Mount lodge and cottages are located in the pretty hamlet of Barrows green 3 miles south of the old market town of Kendal, Cumbria. These recently renovated beautiful barns have been tastefully decorated and consist of of 3 cottages which sleep 18 altogether (plus cots), there are 11 beds within 9 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms some are ensuite. In addition there is a very large sporting lodge with a pool table , big log burner and dining area for 18, perfect for small parties and family gatherings! The smaller of the cottages (sleeps 4) has a downstairs bedroom with ensuite wetroom all with wheelchair access. All the cottages have their own lounges, fireplaces, fully equipped kitchens, dining areas and flat screen TV. Guests can enjoy beautiful walks from the door onto the Helm or just down to the local pub! Windermere is 10 miles away, the Yorkshire Dales 8 miles and the beautiful Trough of Bowland 19 miles. Manchester airport is 67 miles away and we are 5 minutes from the main rail line station of Oxenholme. there is Free private parking and WiFi.

Positive: The cottages were lovely and very comfortable. Very well equipped, comfy beds and washer/drier available as well as a dishwasher. The lodge was brilliant with plenty of space for 15 of us, with a large dining room table and plates and cutlery available. Location was really nice, in a quiet country lane with horses clipping past. The Punchbowl pub is just down the lane which serves delicious food.

Negative: Cottages and the Lodge were quite cold when we arrived and did take a while to warm up. On the day of departure the cleaners arrived early (9:45) which threw us into a bit of a panic. The cleaners were actually cleaning around us as we were trying to get our belongings out of the cottages which was a nightmare ! To be honest the amount of money we paid we did not expect to have to strip our own beds.

Positive: Very comfortable cottages. Well stocked kitchen supplies. Nice parking space for a van. Beautiful area. Pub down the street was a nice surprise.

Negative: Can't think of anything.

Positive: We loved the size of both cottages and being next door meant we were able to pop in/out as necessary to remain as a group. The location to shops etc was good but it would be helpful to know what's in the area ahead of time for supplies ie large Asda about 5 mins away.

Negative: The cottages weren't as clean as we would have expected and lots of flies which we understand happens in the countryside but it prevented us from using the additional space. There was no 'Welcome Package' so we had to go hunting for basics like milk, bread and alcohol after dark in an unfamiliar area as we'd travelled for more than 5 hours via car and some of our party travelled by train.

Summary: It was a great location and the properties were great for the weekend.
