Positive: Beautiful and spotlessly clean place surrounded by greenery, very quiet and one of the best-equipped homes we’ve rented! The hosts were lovely, provided excellent recommendations, along with all the beach equipment we needed for island activities.

Negative: The location is about 25’ from Hilo so it adds a bit to driving times, especially when visiting the west side of the island, but we knew in advance and didn’t mind at all.

Positive: This was like living in paradise. Wake up after a great night’s sleep and enjoy breakfast on the patio, surrounded by a tropical garden. Then head out to explore the island, and find hidden gems thanks to the advice the owners provide in their great guide. The bathroom was by far the best we’ve stayed in, large, well organized and perfect for couples or families. Our parking spot in front of the gate was very convenient.

Positive: The facilities are possibly the cleanest rental we have ever stayed at. The only part that could have been cleaned better was the refrigerator.

Negative: The lack of air conditioning in the room. It was quite warm and for someone not used to the sounds of animals in the woods, sleeping with the windows open was a bit difficult.

Positive: Beautiful renovated unit. 5 minute walk from the cliffs. Remote quiet location in residential area about 20-30 minutes from Hilo. There is no beach, as beaches are very rare on the East Coast of the Big Island. It’s all cliffs and high surf. If you are looking for a beach vacation, you need to stay on the West Coast, by Kona. Hale O Malú is a great spot for those seeking to see the natural beauty of the big island. It has great proximity to the Hawaii Volcano National Park, and within driving distance to many waterfalls. There’s a fabulous farmers market bout 15 minutes away on Sundays only. Much cheaper and bigger than Hilo Farmers Market.
