Positive: The surrounding area is nice and good for hiking. The village itself is quiet and beautiful. I would definitely go back. The staff was kind and welcoming. The private onsen on the terrace is the main reason for my booking.

Negative: We slept in an annex building, basically the whole 1st floor was for us. That was great but because it is right above a restaurant we could smell the cooking/smoke in our room. Also the beds are close to the exit sign so you have to sleep with this uncomfortable green light in the eyes. The private onsen was outdoor so it was ok to feel cold before entering in the warm water but the changing room was also cold with not heating system which was a bit uncomfortable. Also out of the 3 pools outdoor, 2 were boiling hot. It was still really enjoyable and these above are all things that can be improved fairly easily. And I really hope they do because I would definitely love to go back to this Ryokan and I really liked it overall.

Positive: The staff were amazing and the kitchen catered to our needs and changed the menu for my wife as she doesn't eat fish. The Hotel owner makes you almost feel like family rather than just a guest. We would recommend the Hakkei Hotel to anyone we loved our stay and it was just what we needed after a bust schedule travelling around Japan.

Negative: What we didn't like was minor we are westerners and aren't used to sleeping on the Japanese futon.

Positive: The meals were definitely the highlight of the stay and highly recommended. Also the free outside bath.

Summary: Fantastic traditional style Ryokan experience. Come for the baths and meals.

Positive: Stunning onsen (natural hot water spa) next to the beautiful yubara river with a direct view of the Sunayu (the famous and fabulous free public bath near the dam in Yubara) from the spa waters. Gorgeous Kashikiri (private rental) onsen bath on the roof top of the hotel called "Sora No Yu" that will take your breath away with the night view of the lighten up yubara bridge and river. Kind staff. Delicious breakfast. Relaxing atmosphere. Cute rabbit motifs all over the hotel. There is a cute message board for guests at the entrance to leave messages on little wooden boards (perfect for artists). Beautiful hotel. Relaxation heaven. Perfect location! Highly recommend Hakkei in Yubara Onsen.

Negative: The insects can be bad in the wrong season. So plan accordingly. The cleanliness of the outside bath in our room could have be better but, overall, our expectations were met. The facilities could use some updating here and there, but expectations met here too. The beds could have been better (just mattresses on the floor), but the beds were acceptable. So, no real complains with Hakkei because the great location, baths, food, and kind, respectful staff make up for any downside. Highly recommend Hakkei in Yubara Onsen!

Positive: the location is good some of the staff is good the food is not bad .i reserved a room but i dont have an idea that room is not inside the hotel its a room just like staycatio we go there but im so surprised that entrance is dirty and there is a two high starirway so we feel unconvinient because my Mother in law is old .so we changed the room inside the hotel. but im so disatisfied because they dont even clean the table in the lobby because my inlaw saw the other day the mosquito she killed the day we stay and the flooring inside the hotsping or inside the onsen full of papers and plastic and hair and also the locker is dirty. i thought that hotel is good because the price is Not cheap .and also the kami san is very taKatitve and getting angry to the staff without hesitating that beside them is the customer .she must learn and teach the foreign staff in a japanese way and politeness .its japan not foreign country.im sorry to tell this for your own good sake.the place is good motainai
