From the moment we arrived, the warm hospitality and rustic charm of this historic lodge made us feel right at home. Nestled at the base of the stunning Kenai Mountains and just steps from the turquoise waters of the Kenai River, the location is unbeatable for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Alaska’s natural beauty. Our cabin was cozy, clean, and well-equipped with a kitchenette, comfortable beds, and a charming patio offering gorgeous views of the surrounding forest and mountains. The attention to detail in the accommodations made our stay both relaxing and memorable. The on-site restaurant was a highlight—those famous ½ lb. cheeseburgers and smoked salmon chowder lived up to the hype, and the carrot cake was the perfect sweet finish! The staff was incredibly friendly, offering great recommendations for local activities like fishing the nearby Russian River. Whether you’re an angler chasing world-class salmon or just seeking a peaceful retreat in the heart of the Chugach National Forest, Gwin’s Lodge is the perfect basecamp. The free WiFi and convenient amenities like the tackle shop and ATM were a bonus, making our stay hassle-free. Summary: Quiet & beautiful location. Individual log cabin with modern electric, walk-in shower, & kitchenette. Convenient on site cafe, a bait shop & a gift store. All the food was great, but the Chicken fried steak & the biscuits w/sausage gravy were fantastic. Will here stay again!

Summary: This cabin should only be used by fishermen who are only looking for a hot shower and clean bed. I will say there was plenty of hot water and lots of pressure. The cabins were clean but not upkept. The interior had sagging floors, the bathroom window would not stay closed and has not been remodeled/updated maybe ever. No wifi, no tv, no hairdryer. The smell was terrible when we first got there so I left the door open until we went to bed. Two of the four nights it smelled like raw sewage. Just not a place where people on vacation should stop but fishermen would probably be ok.
