Positive: The hotel is right on the river and forest so you can see and hear monkeys and gibbons. The room was comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I did a one day hike to see the elephants with the hotel and it was an amazing experience, well worth it.

Negative: One power outlet meant choosing between the fan or charging devices. Simple fix would be a multi adapter.

Positive: Beautiful location, room and facilities were basic, but clean. The hosts were friendly and t hey organised all the activities. Options for food was limited, but always good. Tangkahan is a little gem, out of the beaten paths where you feel you have the jungle for yourself. Seeing the elephants in their habitat and walking with them in the jungle was exceptional. The value for the price was great.

Negative: No hot water in the bathroom, but it is not really needed, given the weather. Bring your towels, the towels made by chenille were clean but not really doing the job.

Positive: I liked that it is a very small village but possibly the friendliest village I’ve ever visited! The A frame rooms are comfortable enough- the standard room with mountain views are very basic but do the job. The staff are fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed a river rafting half day adventure including lunch with Pandi- the river is beautiful to swim in and explore. Green Forest arranged our late airport pick up from Medan- we stayed 3 nights and that was the perfect amount of time to experience Tangkahan.

Negative: Nothing- it’s a little rustic but wonderful

Positive: Great location for tubing and time spent on the river. Accommodation is in a quiet little village with a lot of new places going up. We didn’t see any suitable places to eat that were open so we ate in house each night, the restaurant was ok. We were initially housed in a room above the restaurant block which was very dark in decor and generally pretty grim. Our bathroom had a leak and we were immediately upgraded to a single bungalow unit which was much nicer accommodation, fresh and comfortable though not as cheap in price, still ok on our budget. Pandy is a real gem, an attentive host and fun guide. We had a great time with him, tubing down the river, he took us to some beautiful spots and we had these places to ourselves. He made a real difference to our stay and we enjoyed his company.

Negative: Rooms in the restaurant block are overdue some TLC.

Summary: Recommend staying in the single unit bungalows.

Positive: The view from the room is beautiful, room is spacious and bathroom outside gives really the "jungle vibe". Location is perfect next to the river so you can cool down, close from the elephant sanctuary, possibility to walk to see the small waterfall and rent tubes to go down the river. Staff were really nice!

Negative: Not a lot of options for restaurant around, but basic indonesian food at the restaurant was good! It is also very hot even with the fan on.

Positive: The crew were very friendly and helpful. Although the facility is simple, it is clean. The nature in the surrounding is beautiful. We can see the river and go down to the river for fresh dip in the water.

Negative: The mosquito nets in one of the rooms need to be fixed, it has holes.

Positive: Staff very friendly, food very nice. Really enjoyed the jungle hiking with Nandi and Madi, especially swimming down the clear river to see the waterfall! Loved the river just below Green Forest which was perfect to swim in during the hot days. Everyone in the local area was very friendly and inviting, always wanting a conversation! Nandi upgraded us to a room overlooking the river with balcony which had basic but sufficient facilities, definitely great value for money. Village was minimal but had useful tourist visitor centre and ATM.

Negative: Not much local selection of food on the menu but all very nice food anyway. Room was quite hot at night despite having a fan.

Summary: Really enjoyed our stay at Tangkahan - we even added an extra night stay!
