Summary: The room and the hotel premises were clean. During my stay, the people at the front desk were very helpful, too. That being sad, I'm giving a low rating to the hotel because they put an additional charge on my credit card without providing a receipt and offering an explanation. I emailed the hotel for a receipt and a clarification, but my requests are being ignored. This behavior strikes me as highly unprofessional.

Summary: We found the staff very helpful, professional and friendly. We called the day before our stay to ask about parking on site. We were told that it could only be secured when we checked in but that we could come early and if our room was ready we could check in early. We knew the hotel could be busy so were grateful for the tip. The room was very inviting. This is an old building which has been renovated and while there were plenty of updates (lots of electrical outlets, air conditioning, charging stations) the decor reflected the style of the original building. So much better than trying to put a hyper modern look into a vintage setting. It reminded us of many family owned hotels in Europe. The lobby was lovely as well as was the attached restaurant and bar. Staff was amazing. The reception staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful. The bar and restaurant staff were slammed with people pouring in but they worked so well and efficiently together while maintaining the same friendly regard towards customers, we felt it necessary to compliment them. if we had a complaint it was that the bar closed at 10 which was before we would return. No problem! Take a nightcap back to our room now and put it in the refrigerator "for later"! And we got a discount on our food and beverage bill. The place is clean, comfortable, visually appealing and walk-able to everyplace we needed to go. We highly recommend staying there while in Berkeley.

Summary: Super location. Super concept. Student gards as keys. The Graduate poster in room. Nice view to campus. (Terrible method where restaurant expenses are paid at check out. And also drawn as deposit for 10 days. Reception unable to explain. Hilton on phone in the reception unable to justify. Offending and unneccessary double accounting by Hilton.)

Summary: Everything was substandard. The hotel is old and the rooms are small. There are minimal amenities (no cups in the bathroom, no shower caps, one body lotion; paper cups for instant coffee that were not replaced daily, housecleaning was inadequate, our room was not vaccumed, the bath mat was on the floor. When I asked for housekeeping to bring something, half an hour passed and I had to call again. The lobby has an odd smell. There was an empty water cooler in the seating area. The best thing was the $25 food and beverage credit at Henry's, food was decent.

Summary: LOCATION - 5 Stars - Great, especially if visiting UC Berkeley; next to restaurants and shops and steps away from the University STAFF - 2 Stars - There were only 2 or 3 young girls at the front desk that we met during our 3 day stay. All of them looked unhappy at their job and seemed a better fit at a Thrift Store. CLEANLINESS - 3 Stars - much to be desired, specifically in the bathroom. Let's just say I was not about to use the bathtub. Throughout the room and bathroom, it looked like a deep clean was much needed. RESTAURANT - 4 Stars - Nothing spectacular, my salad was not fresh, but prices were reasonable and the service was fast. OTHER - 3 Stars - There was a very strong smell in the lobby, which I could not say what it was - candle or something else. While the decor in the lobby was interesting and inviting, it seemed that students and random people could just come in, buy a coffee and sit there using their computers. The room was a good size (we had the corner Campenile view) however, it did not feel clean, there was no pen, not even a single piece of paper to write a note. The Front Desk lobby area did not have any interesting materials on the area, what to do or see and I was not about to ask the front desk ladies, they did not inspire much confidence. There was no concierge either. Overall good location, but not even a 4 Star hotel.
