Summary: The property was great with all the ammenities you would need. Hosts were lovely and mostly left us to it. Garden is beautiful. Online listing states bikes available and DVD player available, however neither of these were. Did nlt bother us but useful to know if you are likely to want these things.

Summary: This property is well situated in the country side with easy car access to places in the Oise. It has everything that you would want with plenty of room as well as welcoming hosts. Nice and quiet as well as being comfortable. Very good bedding linen and everything was provided.

Summary: What a wonderful home to have had the opportunity to stay in (created with pride as seen in the photo album!). The hosts, Lydie and Phillipe, were very kind and welcoming sharing their organic eggs as well as their lovely cats with us. We had everything we could have needed for our stay and were able to explore many areas from this location, though the direct area is quite rural and not at all touristic. We went to Gerberoy (stunning village), did a tour of the war sites in Somme Valley (Museum of 1916 is terrific especially on a hot day), visited Pierrefonds (WOW!) and the Museum of the Armistice Day signing (another wow...great museum you wouldn't realize is even there!). We went to Plan d éau Canada and it's a nice area and safe swimming and play. Beauvais cathedral is especially huge and beautiful, and Amiens is a city you can spend the entire day exploring (the boat ride is definitely worth doing, quite interesting). We loved having the cats visit us every day and as we are quite private people, the hosts gave us our privacy and freedom. The BBQ and the bike were extras we appreciated. The only thing that had made our stay better was a fan for the extremely hot nights. But it was exceptionally hot and dry weather during our stay and with the doors and windows open during the night and closed during the day, we survived! Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation to your region of France!

Summary: Clean, warm and very comfortable house. Well equipped kitchen. Games and books (in French) for the children. Great wi-fi connection. Lydie and Philippe live on the same site and were so kind, friendly and helpful. Fruit and salad from their garden, eggs from their chickens, home made jam....all fantastic! Puits La Vallee is really easy to get to from Calais...straight down the A16 then just a few minutes from the motorway junction. It took about 90 minutes. Our children loved the play park across from the house (football, basketball, climbing frame, roundabout) and Lydie and Philippe also gave us badminton rackets to play with. And there is a table tennis table a few hundred metres into the village so we bought some paddles and balls. There were bikes for us to use but the weather was too hot for the children to cycle far - there's not much shade by the roadsides. The nearest shops/cafes etc are about 5-10 mins drive away. We visited Amiens a few times - small city very pretty by the cathedral and canal. There is a large swimming pool with wave pool, flume and lap pool at Breteuil (about 10 mins drive), we drove to Disneyland with ease and did a Park and Ride to Paris leaving the car at Sarcelles St Brice. All in all a very handy location with easy access to lots of activities, a peaceful village for relaxing in the garden or enjoying short walks, a lovely gite and wonderful hosts in Lydie and Philippe. And excellent value for what they charge. I'm sure we will be back.

Summary: The photos on the website do not do the cottage justice. The cottage is a marvellously clever combination of traditional and modern building techniques to provide a very comfortable home from home with every modern convenience. The courtyard is a pleasant place to spend a little time in the shade and the children have use of a small playground and well maintained field just outside the property. The Rough Guide to France dismisses Picardy as having little to offer the traveller - a very unfair appraisal. We stayed a fortnight and could very easily have busied ourselves with another week of what l'Oise and la Somme have to offer. Particular highlights were the walk around Songeons and Gerberoy, the walk around Savignies, a trip to Le Crotoy, Samara (an archaeology 'theme' park that demonstrates the antiquity of the building techniques employed in the area), the towns and cathedrals at Beauvais and Amiens and a day trip to Paris. Incidentally, the cheapest way for a family of four to enjoy Paris from here is to drive to Sarcelle St Brice and buy four zone 4 Cartes Mobilis - 50€ plus petrol compared with 130€ for a train from Beauvais and zone 2 Cartes Mobilis. Finally but most significantly, the greatest contribution to our enjoyment of this holiday was the generosity and hospitality of Lydie and Phillipe. We were able to enjoy the produce of Lydie's vegetable garden, creating a courgette dish that will forever be known in our family as a 'Puits la Vallée special'. Lydie also provided us with local maps and walking guides so that we could fully enjoy the well marked walks throughout l'Oise. Thank you Lydie and Phillipe for your warm welcome and for allowing us to share a little in the super lifestyle you have made for yourselves.
