Positive: The cottage is set in a very peaceful area. Beautiful mountain views from the front of the house and love that the living room is upstairs, making the most of it. The garden at the back has a nice relaxing little pond with a fountain going, although on the second to last day, it had blown over in all the wind, so it had stopped working. It was lovely to see we had a wild rabbit every day in the garden during the day, and at night, we had frogs and a squirrel....nature is a lovely thing here. There is plenty of parking if more than one car. The cottage has great sized bedrooms, although it could do with a set of drawers in master bedroom as there was nowhere for underwear and nightclothes to go other than in the suitcase at the bottom of the wardrobe. Would I go again? Yes if it was spotlessly clean and I knew the bedding was fresh next time.

Negative: No instructions/original manuals for how to use heating/under floor heating as cold in the invenings. No blankets/comforters on the bed as shown in photos of the cottage, so we had to go all the way to Kendal to buy blankets. If we had known there wasn't any, we would have brought our own. There is no welcome basket/pack as so many cottage owners have done in the past. All that was left was 2 small packets of 2 small cookies. There were some tiny sachets of milk. Coffee, tea &sugar were in storage containers already open, so you had no idea what they were or how long they had been there and in this day and age with germs/ cleanliness you would expect all items to be fully factory sealed so you knew they were not used. On the 2nd evening, we decided to use the oven for the first time, and it hadn't been cleaned as the shelfs had lots of baked on grease/food and baked on food in the bottom so we had to clean it before use. I didn't come on holiday to clean an oven! I emailed booking.com about this and was told they would inform the owners. No owners got in touch with us or came around from the other property up the driveway. Someone did call, i think, from a cottage letting agency who the cottage goes through, which I thought she meant booking.com of Sykes Cottages but she said no it's a cottage lettings place and was ringing about dirty oven complaint. Because we was travelling at the time of the call she said she would ring at 5.30pm that day so I could write down the email address to send photos of the oven to open a complaints file. She never did ring me and still hasn't. So no help from Booking.com or the owners or Sykes Cottages or anyone else. Very very poor communication all round. Wasn't too happy that we had to strip the beds of all sheets and covers and place towels in bags on our last day. This should be part of the price we paid for the holiday.
