Positive: We came here for peace and quiet, and comfort, and that's what we got. Over the past few years we've stayed at various cottages, and this one is by far the best yet. The cottage is in a super quiet place. You absolutely will not hear any road noise. The building has loads of character. It's a long two storey house and has the following layout. -- Downstairs ----------------- A huge kitchen and living / play room area (open plan). The kitchen area is great to cook in, the kitchen table is huge and I spent most of my time sitting at it, and there's a great big (and effective) log / coal burning stove. A short hall with the front door, and the downstairs bathroom. A living room with an open fire. -- Upstairs -------------- Four bedrooms and two bathrooms, and two staircases leading up to them. Upstairs has a great atmosphere. You can walk from one end of the house to the other through all bedrooms, but that doesn't mean you have to. All bedrooms can be accessed from the two staircases without passing through anyone else's room. The whole layout of the house is just a little bit unusual, and has some kind of magic about it. We really liked it. It's welcoming. You feel cosy in it. And it's clean. No smell of damp or anything bad. --------------- There's no TV but there is wifi. I speedtested it multiple times and consistently got speeds of around 10.2 Mbps, which is plenty fast enough for streaming video. My wife and I brought a laptop each and were able to stream our respective stuff at the same time without the video buffering. In other words, she was in the living room streaming her soaps on iplayer and itvx, while I was in the kitchen streaming netflix video or watching stuff on youtube. If you like walking or running you'll be spoilt for choice for trails. They are all over the place. Search up Forestry and Land Trails Auchencairn, or Dalbeattie. The town wood trails up at Dalbeattie are beautiful.

Positive: The location is remote but heavenly. Peaceful. Gorgeous garden. Super cute cottage. Lovely views. The cottage itself is rustic. Open fire in one area and woodburner in another. Loved it.

Negative: There was nothing I didn't like. All ages are catered for. Lots of activities inside and outside the cottage. Lots of different pockets of outdoor space. BBQ. Great accommodation. Perfect for a getaway.

Summary: One of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed.

Positive: More than just a cosy, comfy clean cottage with lots of character and space. The photos don’t do it justice. As soon as we arrived I started to think about when we could come back. Lots of space for our two families. We have had a lovely BBQ in the beautiful garden, had an evening round the fire pit, built a den as it backs onto the woods, made good use of the ping pong table and badminton net, explored the kids hut at the bottom of the garden, fed the fish in the ponds, played the piano, bounced on the trampoline, and relaxed in comfort. Everything for kids of every age. A magical cottage and even more magical garden 😊

Negative: It was perfect! We loved the drive into the woods not knowing what we would find. Nothing we didn’t like!
