Out of the Blue' is a charming two bedroom/two bath cottage at the gateway to beautiful Carmel-by-the-Sea. The unique nautical theme throughout Out of the Blue introduces you to authentic Carmel. You will enjoy the benefits of the Carmel lifestyle including walking to the town and white sand beaches, the Forest Theatre and wonderful restaurants.
Graced with beautiful large windows and abundant flowers cascading from window boxes, this home is a true Carmel beauty. Diane has put her unique decorator touch on the whole house beginning with the front entry. A handmade Dutch door created with stained glass greets each guest. Sea life mosaic stepping stones are embedded in the beautiful blue entry tile. A large mosaic on the wall welcomes you. Blue carpet leads to the upper level where you will be delighted with the many windows, bright sunshine, and distant ocean view through the Monterey pines.
The spacious upper level, decorated with whitewashed wicker, is warm and inviting in wonderful colors of blue, turquoise, jade and white. The hardwood floors throughout add to the beauty and warmth There is a gas-burning stone fireplace to keep you cozy on cool nights. The entertainment center features an HDTV with streaming Internet, including Netflix. The dining table seats six and has a filtered view of lacy redwoods The newly remodeled kitchen features two more of Diane's beautiful mosaics that complement the handmade blue tile counter tops in the kitchen.

The window seat forms an inviting nook for reading and relaxing.
There is a large deck overflowing with flowers on the top level with seating and a small table for beverages or snacks.
The upper bedroom is unique with a turquoise wrought iron bed frame in the form of a seashell. All of the furniture was custom made for the room and is adorned with turquoise seashell handles and legs. Beautiful bedding and nautical stained-glass lamps as well as original water colors and a streaming HDTV complete the room.
The lower bedroom is decorated in blue and white with white wicker furniture and a king-size bed. A cozy corner fireplace with unique mosaic design by local artists adds warmth and charm to this beautiful master suite. There is a streaming HDTV for your enjoyment. The large, tiled bathroom is airy and bright.
'Out of the Blue' has a lovely enclosed backyard with used brick patio and lush plants. There is a small table, chairs and a chiminea on the patio for relaxing and a dining table for outdoor entertaining, along with a gas barbecue.
Five short blocks finds you in the heart of town with Carmel's quaint shops, beautiful art galleries, and excellent restaurants. Carmel beach is only a ten-minute walk from the house. It is a great way to get exercise and have fun too! Forest Theatre is just around the corner, and Mission Trails Park (great hiking) is five minutes away.

Summary: Chuck and Diane have created a very welcoming property. It was a 12 minute walk to downtown and a little farther to the beach.We appreciated having two master suites, beautiful views of redwoods from the dining area, and. A garage which we used when our son was visiting and had his own car. That made it easier to turn around in the driveway and face forward going up hill to the main street.We appreciated the fireplace in the downstairs bedroom. The heat worked very well as did all the appliances.They were plenty of sheets and towels, as well as dishes, dish, towels, and pillows. Diane has decorated the home extensively with nautical themed touches. Clearly a labor of love.Thank you, Diane and Chuck for a delightful month stay.

Summary: Spent month of February at this cozy VRBO. Excellent location 4 blocks from downtown Carmel. Very walkable, but steep - benches along the way if needed. Very charming and coastal decor indoors. Well furnished and stocked with everything we needed. Nice sized bedrooms seperated - one on each level. So many wonderful beaches and restaurants nearby. Chuck and Diane were perfect hosts.

Summary: The property is perfect - charming, roomy, comfortable, and an easy walk to the glorious beach and super-charming village of Carmel, where beauty - both natural and human-made - is everywhere. The hosts were very kind and helpful, responding promptly to a weather-related issue. They took good care of me. I loved my month there and would highly recommend both Carmel and this property, called "Out of the Blue," as a great place to visit. It was hard to leave!

Summary: My husband and I rented for the month of Feb. 2023. We found this cozy cottage perfect for us and the occasional couple we had visit, and being walkable to town and the beach were perfect for all. Being older, our only challenge was backing up the steep driveway to a busy street. Chuck and Diane were perfect hosts: They were communicative immediately if we needed them and they left a binder full of restaurant recommendations and everything to do in the area. The house felt like a home and had the amenities of a home, not a rental. We hope one day to return to this darling cottage where we now have wonderful memories.

Summary: We really loved staying at Out of the Blue and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it if you are thinking of staying in Carmel. We used the house as a base to work from as well as explore. It’s fantastic as you can walk into town in minutes (walk back is up a steep hill) so you don’t always have to use the car. I said ‘house’ but I’m not sure that does it justice. The artistry and creativity is incredible! The way they decorated the house - in fact it doesn’t do it justice to call it “decorating a house” - Out Of The Blue is a work of art from top to bottom! and it is a visual feast for the eyes! We loved the beautiful mosaics so very much 😍 And Chuck and Diane have such skill and incredible attention to detail - from sea-themed tiling and mosaics to lamps to bedding and more. Wow! 🤩 We even loved the side cabinet in the living room which is painted so beautifully with a lighthouse and also love the frames covered in seashells. Their skill and creativity has transformed a house into something magical and very special indeed! We really were so very impressed with how much love, artistry and creativity has gone into crafting your house. It’s a masterpiece! Our guests (who left after a few days) were also in awe of your artistry and they loved the few days they stayed. Chuck & Diane left a very kind note on the kitchen table, we felt most welcomed by it 😊 (I’m a greeting card designer, so I always appreciate the thought and care that goes into a hand written note. It really was so welcoming, thank you). So if you want to stay in something more than a ‘house’ in Carmel. Out of the Blue is the place for you.

Summary: This property is on Ocean Avenue which is a busy stree but it is set back and it’s very quiet. The home is well appointed. The kitchen has all the equipment you need to stay and cook in house or walk to excellent nearby restaurants. Garbage pickup is the only noise you hear. The beds are comfortable. And we’d stay here again.
