As soon as you step through the 100 plus year old oak double doors, you know this is not just another rental. On the outside, it has changed very little since Pruitt's Grocery was built as a family-owned neighborhood corner store in 1920. It was the last one operating in the NW Quadrant just before Mr. Pruitt died in 2015. Inside, it has been beautifully renovated, and is now our home. We have taken great care and love to furnish it with midcentury modern decor and luxury accommodations. We researched Consumer Reports, U.S. News & World Reports, and other "Best Reviewed" sites for every major purchase and have provided everything we have needed, and most everything we have wanted, to make it beautiful and comfortable. We took care to highlight the history and surroundings of Beaufort, and to include crafts from local artisans and merchandise from local shops.
LOCATION & THINGS TO DO:
Our home is in the Historic District a few blocks from the beautiful Beaufort Waterfront with lovely sunrises and sunsets, alfresco dining, and unique stores. MCRD Parris Island is 9 miles/15 minutes from our home. We are 45 minutes from Hilton Head, 1 hour from Savannah, and less than 1.5 hours from Charleston.
Hunting Island Beach, South Carolina’s single most popular state park, is about 20 minutes away. A pristine white, sandy beach, marsh and maritime forest, a saltwater lagoon and ocean inlet hosting a vast array of land and marine wildlife are all part of the park’s natural allure. The historic Hunting Island Lighthouse was built in 1859 and rebuilt in 1875 after it was destroyed during the Civil War. A unique feature of the lighthouse is that it was constructed of interchangeable cast-iron sections so it could be dismantled should it ever need to be moved. We provide a complimentary pass to Hunting Island State Park, along with beach chairs, towels, and a beach cart, should you want to take advantage. The pass includes free admission to the lighthouse.
At 5 miles, the Sands at Port Royal is the closest beach with lovely views of the Beaufort River and the estuaries. In the evening, you likely will catch a stunning sunset with the shrimp boats coming in while dining at Fishcamp or Shellring Ale Works.
AMENITIES FOR PETS & CHILDREN
We are pet friendly with a fenced in yard, and also provide some dog amenities so you won't have to pack so much - beds, food and water bowls, one large crate, and blankets, a Coolaroo Steel-Framed Elevated Dog Bed and a few toys, and furniture covers in case your dog wants to join you on the couch.
We provide a high chair and dishes, cups and utensils for toddlers and small children. We also have an indoor tent and indoor and outdoor games for children of all ages, including an adjustable putter should your child want to join you on the green. (Let me know if you would like to have our manager leave out the high chair and pack 'n play.)

Summary: We had a wonderful stay and couldn’t have been more comfortable. We even had everything we needed for a beach day, comfortable chairs, and towels, and cart. I don’t think one detail was missed! we loved the screened in porch and spent a lot of time outside. The weather was absolutely beautiful. Would love to come back someday! Summary: Our stay was delightful as the cottage has been renovated beautifully. The screened in side porch, front porch and outdoor yard are lovely. The neighborhood is charming, quiet and filled with spectacular, old oak trees covered in hanging moss. The home is close to downtown and a lovely park a few blocks away. Our host was easily accessible to answer any questions or make suggestions. It was a memorable stay!

Summary: The Pruitt House is a one of a kind rental...the history and antique elements were just wonderful. The landscape was beautiful and the fenced yard for our fur babies was the best. Kathy was totally responsive no matter what we needed. The house is so complete that you really just need your clothes and food. And your pets are totally cared for with crates, blankets, furniture covers, food bowls, etc. If you have the chance to visit Beaufort, this is the perfect place to stay. We certainly hope to return!

Summary: This is an amazing house that has a fantastic fenced in backyard for your furry family members. It is decorated beautifully and every possible kitchen accessory you could think of is provided. We loved that it was walking distance to town. The host was great with communication and super friendly. If we are ever back in the area we would absolutely love to stay here again.
