Positive: The location was wonderful and a great base to explore the Moray coast The Pennan Inn, next door, when open served wonderful food.

Negative: The spiral staircase and very steep steps to the second bedroom are not for the fainthearted. The cottage is up for sale and feels tired and grubby. If you stay here, bring a couple of fold up chairs to sit on by the see. The cottage didn't have its own seating area.

Positive: Beautiful location, cottage was cosy and comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Everything was very clean and the beds were great. Upstairs bedroom is really pretty.

Negative: Blackout curtains might be an idea for the summer - we woke up a little bit earlier than we’d have liked!

Negative: The only aspect not enjoyed were the very steep stairs to the upper bedroom !

Summary: Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting which made a special birthday even more memora

Positive: A really comfortable house, thankfully very warm, beautiful location, open the windows and hear the waves of the sea just outside.

Negative: The appearance of the outdoor paintwork, not a good first impression, the spiral staircase (if you have bad knees) the access road is not for the faint-hearted.

Summary: A lovely cottage in a remote location, if you like the sea, but certainly a summer location.

Positive: The location, very close to the sea front in a small village with beautiful surroundings, was idyllic. It was so peaceful when we visited. We stayed a week but would have loved to have stayed longer. The cottage itself was lovely and the perfect base for our daily trips to various castles and nature reserves. We were very lucky with perfect weather for our trip, which just enhanced our stay all the more.

Negative: We didn’t really dislike anything. It wasn’t a problem for us but the narrow spiral staircase plus the very steep wooden stairs to the second bedroom could prove tricky for some guests and the drive down the quite narrow, steep and twisting road to Pennan itself might also be tricky for inexperienced drivers but it was worth it to reach such a beautiful location.

Summary: An ideal place to get away from the noise and bustle of urban life.

Positive: Th little house is warm and cosy and right on the harbour wall in stunning Pennan. The location is fantastic and the cottage ideal for a small group. Chiara was very attentive and pleasant to deal with. People unfamiliar with the area need to know about the road down to the village - and back up again! It’s the same one and not for the faint hearted. The beds are comfy and the shower is fine( the door is a bit glitchy). Lots of games, tv worth range of platforms to access, and useful information booklet on the house and area.

Negative: The stairs are not just steep they are almost vertical! The house information could be clearer on that point and that the second (twin) bedroom is in the attic. The fridge is a bit in the small side if you’re there for more than a few days.

Summary: Comfortable and cosy in a special location.

Negative: I was concerned with the water leak above the electrical fuse box in the house, although Chiara did call out her plumber to review the problem immediately so that was positive. The property is tired and cluttered. The futon and chair had stains on them which was a little disappointing - these were covered by a blanket. The kitchen isn’t that well equipped - it’s the minimum of what I would expect. The front door - none of us could get it to turn so we left it open for our stay, we were concerned that we wouldn’t manage to open it if we had managed to lock the door. The shower door is difficult to close. The upstairs bedrooms only have one pillow and we could have used some blanket throws downstairs as opposed to putting up the heating! It has the potential to be amazing with a little tlc. That said the beds were amazingly comfortable.

Summary: Pennan is amazing- the cottage was disappointing.
