Travel Purpose: business

Positive: The first thing I evaluate is the comfort of the bed, and I thought this place had an outstanding mattress. We only used the main bedroom so I cannot comment on the second bedroom or the murphy bed. The apt was very spacious and was comfortable to relax in. We did not use the kitchen but it was large and offered a nice place to sit if needed. The bathroom was very modern, the shower was very good, and the entire place appeared to have new or newer carpet that felt, looked, and smelled great. All of these things combined made the apartment nice to stay in.

Negative: The WiFi was non-functioning. We attempted to unplug the router to reset, and nothing. We informed the host and they could not find a solution. I asked several times if someone needed to come look at it but that was not done. Not having WiFi made it impossible to work as I had planned, we could not watch TV, and I suspect something was wrong with the air conditioning because both window units we used were plugged into smart plugs that of course, didn't work. The security cameras appeared to be non-functioning, although I can't confirm this (the host made a comment about cameras at another house that were working, implying that these were not) they did not offer the level of security that they should. After a day of emailing back and forth about the problem, late afternoon the host offered to let me go to another property they had nearby, but I really didn't want to go sit in a strange house by myself. At the end of our first full day, they offered to move us to another location, but we were going to check out in 12 hours-too much of a hassle. I realize that problems arise that are sometimes uncontrollable but with the significant required deposit ($34 more than the fee), and the agreement I had to sign, the requirement to submit my drivers license, combined with things in the unit like a large red flashing ambulance light that would go off if there was too much noise, I felt that guests are not trusted, and therefore welcome, in this rental. This is my opinion only and I am basing my comments and ratings on the hosts' own guide to ratings which is prominently posted on the refrigerator. Let me be clear: I am not asking for anything, we stayed for the time we paid for and refused a move to another unit. But I do feel that any host has an obligation to present a rental in the same condition as advertised. I signed an EIGHT PAGE renter agreement outlining what I could and couldn't do while staying here; where are the hosts' responsibilities?
