Positive: We had a wonderful vacation in the Maldives! The resort was absolutely beautiful, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was perfect for relaxing. We would especially like to highlight the incredibly friendly and attentive service from our waiter Azmoon, who anticipated our every need, and the amazing dishes prepared by Chef Vipula. A big thank-you also to our room boy Mamor, who took such great care of our room and always greeted us with a smile.

Positive: It’s a lovely small island. Not overcrowded at all. You only realise the amount of people when at the set meal times in the main food restaurant. There is another small restaurant and bar in the pool area. Also other bar and seating areas to choose from. A great place to relax. The snorkelling was spectacular with so many fish of all varieties and sizes. Swimming around the reef out beyond the breakwater could be more choppy and/or tide related, but still plenty to see inside those walls (including the harmless reef sharks) where the water was always calm. It’s hard to know where the better places to snorkel are, but heading out directly from room 207 is a good start and became the favoured spot. There is only a very small section of the island that has a sandy beach as most of the island is surrounded by concrete walls. Our beach bungalow faced the walls, but I didn’t find that a problem. We had steps down into the beautiful water directly outside our rooms. So peaceful to sit on our verandahs, but sunbeds are supplied if wanted. Our bungalows were super spacious and comfy with open aired bathrooms. Absolutely no bugs, flies or mozzies during our 5 days! ALL of the staff were delightful and helpful. It’s a 75 minute speed boat ride from the airport and we were fortunate to have good calm weather for the trips to and from the island. Ellahidoo staff meet you at the airport and direct you to the waiting speedboats. The day we arrived, we also needed to wait for other planes and passengers to land before we could head off so didn’t arrive until sunset at ellahidoo. This wasn’t really a problem for us, but if only visiting for a short time you have already ‘missed’ your first day.

Positive: A cozy little island with the resort built in a very spacious, natural manner. The bungalow we got faced the beach, yet was protected from the wind by some trees. In fact, I think it was even a better arrangement than the pricey water villas got, which didn’t get a nice approach to water. The food was varied, and the drinks menu extensive (though usually very sweet). The staff were very helpful, especially when we got cut on some corals and needed small medical attention. The house reef is impressive, and there are lots of sharks and bigger fish, as well as all the bright reef fish. The waves smacked us on the reefs though, so be careful to avoid the shallows on those days. In all, these were the most restful 6 nights of my life. As I came to celebrate my birthday, the staff did cute little things like arrange a congratulations on the bed during cleaning, and a piece of cake at dinner. The dessert had its own room, and I swear I felt like a kid in a candy store every mealtime. Ripest, tastiest papaya. Special thanks to Ratih and Atik for a wonderful massage - the spa is definitely worth a visit! Tip: at sunset, a whole lot of sharks come into the bay where the boats are parked, it’s like a private shark aquarium!

Negative: If you are not one of the lucky ones to get a bungalow by the beach, most likely yours would be facing a barrier with some steps into the water, as you may see from the aerial photos of the island.
