Nestled against the hillside and overlooking the ocean on one side and the marina on the other, Residence Le Mississippi is a pleasant place to relax and unwind after a day of sunbathing or water sports activities. Located on the quieter French side of the island, the property is composed of 3 small buildings in the elegant colonial architecture style in the midst of a lush tropical garden.
This two-bedroom condo comes with a second floor loft with three twin beds. It comfortably sleeps 6 – 2 in the master bedroom king size bed, 3 in the loft’s 3 single beds and 1 in the second bedroom’s full-size pull-out couch. It is perfect for a single family with kids and an additional family member or child care-taker.
There are 2 bathrooms (but a single toilet that is separate).
A large ouside patio provides the perfect area to relax.
Furnished with French flavor and stately Mahogany wood louvered doors and windows, the condo offers simple charm. It is decorated with local art.

Coralita Bay – it’s walking distance.
Dawn Beach – it’s the closest drive-to beach and it’s beautiful! It's 2 mn away by car.
Gallion Beach – it’s a great beach for young kids or if you like windsurfing. It's 10 mn away by car.
Ile Pinel – it’s charming but it costs $15 per person for the 2 minutes boat ride.
Baie Rouge – it’s one of the prettiest beaches of the island.
Grocery shopping: St Martin/St Maarten offers great epicurean shopping. Where else can you find a supermarket that offers the best of French, Dutch and US goods.
Simply Gourmand in Hope Estate - 12 mn away by car.
Convenience stores in Oyster Pond; 3 to choose from - 150-400 yards away.

Summary: A taste of old St. Martin in a beautiful setting. Great for just the two of us, but had a futon in a guest bedroom and an adorable loft with 3 single beds and a small sofa. The grounds were kept up by full time owners with a wonderful small pool for a quick cool off or a full day lounging. Close to Dawn Beach and several good restaurants. Or drive 15 minutes north and experience all the world class beaches on Orient. Plantation shutters by day to let in the soft Tradewinds, A/C at night to keep out any mosquitos. Front porch with a beautiful view of the Caribbean and Oyster Pond for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening. The full time residents only spoke French (very friendly with a wave Bon Jour) and all but 2 TV stations were in French, but for a get-away to relax with a good book, we didn't even miss the English speaking stations (ESPN and CNN). With an Internet connection -that was spotty all over the island- we could still connect to home. Jo, the condo manager, was very attentive and remedied any problems. The owners are supposed to install a small safe for passports, jewelry, etc., but the gated community with assigned parking seemed very safe. We have already booked to stay for several weeks again next year.

Summary: owner Marc and local manager Jo communicated well and represented the place accurately, both were interested engaged and responsive, no concerns. The condo/apartment itself is well maintained with large doors that open onto a great balcony with a large dining table. Our family of 5 had plenty of space for a week's stay with our boys sleeping in the loft. Everything worked and the small kitchen was reasonably well equipped and we were able to prepare good meals with minimal frustration. Beautiful view, nice pool and within walking distance of several eating places and small grocery stores, most catering to French tastes, which is a great reason to choose St. Martin as a destination. If you want a busy touristy beach, cheap meals (not easy in St. Martin) and nightlife this is probably not the place for you. We rented a car for our stay from the airport and used it a lot. There are rental places at Oyster poind if you want to rent for only a few days, and in any case you should research the rental car thing in St. Martin. Apparently there are pros and cons to renting from the French vs Dutch side. I may consider that next time. In short, no disappointments, engaged owner, wonderful manager and we would go back without hesitation. Dave
