Summary: We choose the property for its location and direct access to the beach, we had seen in a previous review that the doors were difficult to move, but assumed this would have been resolved. Clearly this was not the case, I consider myself fit a strong and struggled to open door other than to squeeze through. We raised the issue with owner and bloom stays, no reply, all very disappointing

Summary: El Ray is a very special place. If you're looking for a spot to really soak up the majesty and serenity of Dungeness, I highly recommend it. The design of the building means light pours into the space, and the owners have decorated it perfectly, balancing all the comforts and utilities you need, while letting the unique building and location shine.

Summary: El Ray House in Dungeness is truly a hidden gem. Set right on the beach, the views are absolutely stunning — endless sea and sky stretching out in front of you, with only a few fishermen in sight to break the perfect sense of peace and quiet. It’s the kind of place where you feel a million miles from everything, yet you’re just a short stroll (two minutes!) from a couple of charming pubs. The house itself is as unique as its location — beautifully designed and full of character. It’s clear a lot of thought has gone into making it both stylish and comfortable. There are three terraces to choose from, each offering a different perspective on the landscape, and perfect for soaking up the atmosphere with a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Inside, everything you could possibly need is provided. It’s one of those rare places that balances comfort with a deep sense of place. The whole area feels magical, almost otherworldly, and El Ray House makes the most of it. A perfect escape.

Summary: Not as comfortable as Radar. Wonderful design and we really enjoyed ourselves but if you want constructive feedback - despite space it almost feels a little like the owner ran out of money when it came to furnishing it - it has a bit of a feel of random furniture with no real design in the bedrooms. and then tiny beds which were a surprise at this price point, and no freezer - how does anyone cope in summer (?). The main door to the deck took an ex marine to be able to push it so something wrong there we think and the deck needs repairing as slats that have come lose bounce up. Wouldnt take much to give it a 10/10 - a bath outside would be amazing for example, and I can see plumbing out there. We loved the originality and would recommend to others but Radar suits us better we think

Summary: This is a second time returning to the property after really enjoying our previous stay. The property located a short walk from the seafront and we loved to go out and walk along the beach with the family but also be in close proximity to the house as we have elderly parents and a young child so they can head in when they get cold/tired. Generally the stay was fine however this time round the glass doors that face the beach would get stuck or were extremely stiff. Neither my parents or my 7 year old could open the door to the beach and I really struggled as a relatively strong guy. I managed to do it a couple of times but I had to push against the wall just to open it slightly to squeeze through. There was a note to say it just needed a good tug but this was a bit of an understatement. Having to try and open and close the door each time anyone wanted to go out was a real pain. At one point I had to pop to the shops and there was no one else able to open the door. We ended up having to go out via the front and walk around the house each time which was very annoying given this was a major feature of the property. It would have been good if we were told or given a heads up before checking in as we may have selected a different property. It’s worth noting that main part of the house has no heating apart from the stove and the supply logs for the fire is limited so you are expected to buy your own firewood if you run out other wise the room can get cold. I would have expected this to be provided given this is the main source of heating. Apart from this I can’t really fault anything else with the stay.

Summary: Great communication. Well stocked for a holiday rental including heaters etc, as we were there in winter. Great to have a DVD player, with a small selection but you can bring your own. Good directions and communication etc and guides on things to do. Beautiful design and great location for a windswept stay!

Summary: I know Dungeness well and have stayed at other rental properties in the area. However, El Ray is by far the best, being closer to the sea. With the Panoramic window which has an uninterrupted view out to sea. I can highly recommend this rental property.

Summary: We love Dungeness and El Ray is a wonderful house to enjoy this corner of the UK. The view of the beach is beautiful and the house warm and cosy. We did have a problem with being able to open the big picture window/door but Sophie and the El Ray did their best to fix it while we were there which was partially successful - we could just about manage to open/close it with 2 of us. I know they were making plans for a permanent fix and we hope to return next year to fully enjoy the inside/outside aspect of the house.

Summary: Having visited Dungeness for a number of years we've always wanted to stay at one of the architecturally unique places on the estate. El Ray was perfect for us. A simple but immaculately furnished house a stone's throw from the beach. With two double rooms we had ample space for my partner and I, and our baby son. Everything was spotlessly clean and all amenities were provided, including dishwasher tablets, salt, pepper, etc. Moments away from the old lighthouse and a short walk to the fish hut it couldn't be in a better, more peaceful location. We'd definitely return.
