Our holiday home in the tiny rural hamlet of Groslier is the ultimate getaway. A converted farmhouse, the property commands stunning views across the beautiful landscape of the Auvergne. It’s a perfect base for exploring this wild and beautiful part of France: nature is on your doorstep so you don't need to go far to experience the impressive array of flora and fauna on offer. There are numerous towns and villages to explore, many with impressive Medieval and Romanseque architecture. The Auvergnats are proud of their culture, so there are plenty of fairs, musical events, shows and exhibitions to choose from. Restaurants in the area offer a superb cuisine based on wonderful local meats and cheeses, and for the adventurous there's a cafe renowned throughout France for its lunches of frogs' legs! The house is in a popular area for walking and cycling and is not far from picturesque lakes for boating and swimming.
The house is spacious and well equipped, with the living space on the first floor to take best advantage of the fabulous views. There are three bedrooms, two double rooms on the ground floor, sharing a bathroom, and a large family room on the second floor with its own bathroom. The first floor is a light open plan living space with a fully fitted kitchen, comfortable lounge with log burning stove and dining area.
The property benefits from WiFi, UK FreeView and French TNT Sat TV, electric radiators in every room, dishwasher, washing machine and cooling fans.
The house is surrounded by two acres of land, mostly laid to meadow. There is a terrace with patio furniture and a barbecue for guests to use. Summary: Very cute et clean house lost on the middle of Auvergne. Amazing view from the garden. I recommend this place for calm (the only neighbors are cows), hiking and to visit this beautifull region.

Summary: A lovely house to stay in to get away from it all - just the sound of cowbells and the occasional passing farm vehicle to interrupt the peace in the evenings after a day in the beautiful countryside. The main room (kitchen/dining/living) was spacious yet cosy with magnificent views across the valley, although we spent most of the evenings outside as our visit coincided with a heatwave!

Summary: We had a lovely week in this house in mid August. The location and views are brilliant, and perfect if you want to get away from it all. The area in general was quite busy (mid August) when we went to the local town and the various activities, but the house location was super peaceful and isolated. It has views across the volcanic landscape that we spent many a happy evening soaking up along with wine and local produce. The favourite location for the kids (we have 11yr old twins) was Super Besse, where there was lots to do from mountain biking, to lake action and Europe's longest zip wire.

Summary: Four of us stayed at Groslier for a week in mid June - a wonderful time for long evenings and amazing wild flowers. We were very lucky with the weather and cycled or walked all day every day - enjoying exhilarating rides across the plateau above the house on quiet roads with fantastic views. Be warned - if you cycle in this area you're likely to be climbing 1000m - 1500m on any one ride (well that's what we did). The house is light, spacious and comfortable, with good cooking facilities and spaces outside for sitting in sun or shade. We ate all our meals outside (which I think is probably not typical for a week here!). Just a note - you have to carry everything downstairs and down the outside steps to do this, which is fine if you're fit and healthy. Wonderful sunsets from the terrace and a chance for the birdwatcher in our party to spot a black redstart and other rareties. We enjoyed watching the local herd of cows slowly and quietly making their way along the pasture below the house each evening, and on the last night a young hare joined us too. The market in Besse was well worth visiting on Monday morning - great to be able to stock up at the beginning of the week, as we wanted to avoid using the car as much as possible to make the most of the countryside on foot and on 2 wheels. Which we did.
