Summary: I struggled writing this review for several reasons. First off, overall it was a fun and neat experience. But, on the other hand not what I was expecting at all. While I wanted to show what my experience was, I didn’t want to deter anyone from coming here. In the long run, I would probably come back here, but would know what I was getting myself into this time. First off, there was no bar, lounge or restaurant onsite as described. The breakfast consisted of one type of cereal, water and a banana. My initial reaction from the outside of the building was not good. The outside needs a lot of work and is in rough shape. Let me tell you, when I opened the front door I was taken back with the beauty inside. It was old world, rich and very exquisite. Check in was easy and friendly. But, we were on the 4th floor, which meant we had to use the elevator. Very small and old. The permit in the elevator that was posted said the last inspection was in March 2015, which I hope this is just an oversight and an updated inspection permit was just not posted. The room was pretty cool and the hallways felt like we were in a horror movie (the shining) which created a cool ambiance. There is no door on the bathroom. So privacy isn’t an option while on the toilet or showering. The bed was amazing and the space was cool, but underutilized, with just a few chairs and couch in a huge space. Rain knocked out the satellite, so no tv. Overall I would do it again, but have a better idea what to expect.

Summary: It appeared the bar and grill was out of service. The hotel itself was like a museum going back in time. The room was clean with old school wooden furnishings. I enjoyed my stay but ate at the local diners on main street. Hotel reminded me of the movie "The Shining". I thought it was pretty cool seeing the vintage furnishings.

Summary: Had stayed at the decker 10 years ago when their bar and restaurant were operating and was excellent. Both are closed now and there is just not a lot else in maquoketa. Place was nearly empty except for us even though there were some events going on in the area. Still a unique and well preserved old hotel but could use a few room updates such as fridge . There also was no ice machine in the place. A minor annoyance but those add up. All in all it was acceptable but not great.

Summary: Charming boutique hotel. Very clean and quiet. Good restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast is not great, yogurt and cold cereal.

Summary: The elevator was out of service. We had a room on the third floor. Which wasn’t bad overall. Just during load in and load out. The bed was not very comfortable. I should have asked for a different room. The lounge was closed. It was open last time we were there and were looking forward to it. Overall we enjoy staying at the Decker. But they will need to make some improvements before we return.

Summary: Very neat old hotel. The manager was very kind and helpful. Will definitely stay there again next time we go to Maquoketa.

Summary: We were told there would be an elevator but upon arrival not available. My spouse has breathing issues so stairs and long hallway to room was too much for him. We asked to see our room. Bed was not a queen, room and bath was very tiny. Not at all what the pictures showed. Everything was very disappointing. We did not stay.
