Positive: We stayed 1 week at Dang Backpacker spending most of our time at the beautiful Diapela beach. Great hospitality from the owner, Dang, who looked after us very well. She even made our laundry twice at no extra cost. She is kind and very proactive. Her English has definitely improved the time we were there! You will stay in a room that opens to the kitchen where the chef Mac cooks delicious fresh food. We sometimes used their kitchen to prepare noodles and coffee. The house is attached to the village school so every day you are surrounded by lots of very friendly kids - we loved spending time with them. The property has the only restaurant in the village so it was very convenient for us. Restaurant prices are average and we found the fresh fish dishes were a good value for money considering the fish was daily catch. The owner also provided us with delicious coconut drinks whenever we wished. In summary - if you want to experience an authentic Philippine village where you go back to the basics, this is the right place.

Negative: - the road to Diapela village and beach includes a >1 hour drive in very rough terrain that becomes slippery when you have to go up and down hill. The hills indeed are very steep. We arrived in Diapela with a 125cc scooter and around 15kg backpacks at night. It was not fun and most of the time my partner had to walk because the scooter was not able to carry us both. - the room where we stayed is very basic and is built at the back of another house with roosters. They can become a problem in the night as they are very loud. We got used to it after the second night. The room has ventilator but not good ventilation as we had to keep everything closed as there were no screens for the mosquitos. We bought mosquito candle repellent that somehow helped. - very patchy Internet that you need to buy with coins. Very affordable for basic browsing.

Positive: After a long day driving and looking rather dishevelled and dusty, we were welcomed to a cold towel to brush off the dirt and refresh ourselves. A coconut drink to quench our first was upon arrival too. We were made to feel part of the community and relax in a comfortable room. After a beautiful sunset walk along the beach, we went back for dinner. The spring rolls and fish curry for two were exceptional. The best food with have had in the Philippines yet! Amazing value for money the flavours were beautiful done. We were the first guests and would recommend to anyone visiting the area. If you want to escape the crowds and join a real Philippino community then this is the place! Thank you again for a truly amazing experience. I hope we can come back one day for more fish curry and laughter. Raine and Sam 🌞🌛
