Negative: Spa pool not available but wasn’t told (yes I should have read reviews but thought it would be fine) Staff unhelpful at times. Poor service in restaurant - had to ask for salt & pepper (think we were sharing grinders with rest of tables!) and had to ask for steak knife. Very slow to get drinks! Hotel is showing a lot of wear and tear, there are renovations due to be carried out so hopefully all this is resolved. We came home a day early!!!!

Positive: The location is excellent and very convenient. Breakfast was lovely with good variety and quality. The decoration of the communal areas – especially the restaurants, bar, and breakfast rooms – is beautiful and very well maintained, giving the hotel a stylish and welcoming atmosphere.

Negative: Unfortunately, the spa facilities such as the sauna were not available during our stay, which was disappointing. The rooms feel outdated and would benefit greatly from a full renovation – particularly the old-fashioned bathroom, tiles, and worn carpets. At breakfast, the staff initially seemed visibly annoyed when we asked for a table by the window to be reset, even though these tables are naturally the most popular and such a request should not feel like an inconvenience.

Positive: Beautiful location. I will be a regular visitor to Dalhousie Castle

Negative: My only complaint was that my stay only lasted 7 days, I could have stayed there for over a month - it was very relaxing and the rooms were so peaceful and cozy

Summary: Best way to visit Edinburgh, stay in a castle that has such a rich history and appreciate the nature surrounding you
