Positive: After reading some reviews we were a little worried especially because we were bringing our 5yr old with us. All staff went above and beyond very welcoming and friendly. The hotel is a beautiful building ,the main entrance bar and restaurant spotless lovely furniture. Our room was also spotless just a little cold but there was a heater already provided Breakfast 10/10 and the gentleman thankyou so much you was so attentive inregards to allergies and making sure we had everything we needed .Hats off to the chef best breakfast we have had quality bacon,sausage all hot and presented beautifully. This hotel is rated a 3 star not a 5 star i think people forget this and expect more and the reviews are unfair .The price we paid we got more than we expected and will certainly be returning, wishing the Crown all the best for the future

Negative: Didn't understand why an extra payment of £20 was taken on arrival communication was a little difficult to understand when i questioned this.

Negative: Couldn’t work the TV, although it came on, tried all sources but couldn’t get any channels, furniture dated, especially the chair, very dusty lamps, grouting in the bathroom around shower area, terrible! No one on reception, a customer had been waiting 10 minutes before we arrived, we heard voices and laughing in the bar area, all three of us were shouting “hello, shop” the first customer had to go around to the bar and a lady came back with him and she was ever so apologetic, normally it wouldn’t bother me but we needed to be in and out of our room by a certain time to get a taxi to take us to my works Xmas party and we were panicking

Positive: It was relatively clean from the point of view of there being clean sheets and floor/bathroom was clean. It was a large room, large windows and ample space to hang things up and store if needed. The desk was big. Basic coffee/tea and shower gel/shampoo/conditioner/soap provided. The staff were very friendly and it was definitely warm enough.

Negative: The mattress was very uncomfortable; I could feel the springs in my back and every time I moved it was creaking and making noise. I was near the door and it slammed very loudly near my head so I was disturbed a few times in the night by people coming and going. Weirdest for me was that there was clearly a new headboard added but it had covered up 3 of the 4 plugs next to the bed (2 per side) so there was only a single plug available on one side. Luckily I had an extension lead to plug my phone in next to the bed. It felt unclean in certain areas, the lamp had a thick layer of dust on top. The bathroom wasn't well done, very messy. The door didn't have a latch so it didn't "close" fully and the extract didn't seem to work well if at all.

Summary: Basic and clean, but uncomfortable and needs some work.
