Positive: Location was perfect: at the end of a long track surrounded by trees and fields and silence except for the occasional high aircraft. Tenanted cottage nearby but did not intrude on the peace and quiet of the the location.

Negative: Bed was too firm and would benefit from a mattress topper. Some of the cooking pans were a little tired and not everything was perfectly clean.

Summary: exceptional experience.

Positive: If you crave peace and quiet this cottage will be perfect for you. The garden is beautiful and although the property is quite remote, it’s a perfect location to explore the county and the lovely coastal town of Whitstable is only 15 minutes away by car.

Negative: The main issue we had was the stairs. I know in an old cottage the stairs are going to be steep or difficult for some people to negotiate, but you don’t expect them to be slippery or be loose! We are both very fit and mobile but the stairs were dangerous, polished black gloss paint, make sure you have rubber soles on your feet, don’t attempt them in bare feet or worse just socks. I did email the hosts twice without answer. It would also have been nice to open the front door for a breeze but the only access is the side door. There is also a large unpleasant stain on the bathroom floor coming from the toilet brush holder.

Positive: Its setting, solitude, space, surroundings. The cottage, a chocolate box image, lies at the end of a long, long drive. There is a tenanted property someway off but we never saw or heard anyone, just birds and a combine harvester.

Negative: Some may find the long uneven track to the cottage (about three tenths of a mile) a drawback but taken at 4-6mph it becomes a feature of the stay.

Summary: A spot to chill for a gentle week's sightseeing.

Positive: There was nothing per se we didn't like. It would have be nice to have a starter pack for the log fire ready for us and the side light working as the front door didn't open.

Negative: Location is isolated but lovely with the cottage perfect for time away from the world with our little dog.
