Nestled in the historical settlement, Clifford Sawyer House is the result of construction that began in 1868. This was the home of Elizabeth Sawyer, the granddaughter of Wayannie Malone. Hope Town was founded in 1785 by Wayannie – a widow from Charleston, who fled the United States with her four children for safe refuge from the Revolutionary war. Today, the Clifford Sawyer House is considered to be one of the very first homes built in Hope Town and stands as a testament to an age and style gone by. Picket fences, porches, and clapboard accents make it a prime example of quaint and colonial architecture. The house has been completely renovated in 2021, but still maintains much of its charm and decades of history.
This adorable vintage cottage is designed with high-end furniture and features throughout. Great efforts have been made to provide modern conveniences while respecting the original character and charm. Guests will love the dipping pool nestled in the lush backyard setting. The home is located in a quiet residential neighborhood on the settlement’s north side. Just a short 1-2 blocks stroll from the beach, harbour, shopping, restaurant, bike rentals, and incredible views of the landmark lighthouse.

Summary: Beautiful home! Very close to all Hopetown has to offer and close to public dock, if needed. The plunge pool is a nice touch after a day of boating !! Very close to Vernon’s for awesome pies & bread & Capt Jacks for food & libations!! Say hi to Clurice for us!! Go see Shaka at the straw market shop (handmade baskets etc by her & taught to her by her grandmother)!!! Munchies has great food & say hi to Souvenir for us 😉

Summary: From the VRBO website, we were not surprised by the loveliness of the property. We also expected it to be on the smaller side. What we didn’t imagine was how each bedroom/bath could be so private in a smaller home! The layout is genius. The location could not have been better - a stone’s throw from the ferry dock plus such a walkable area. We experienced trouble with our water pressure, but Maxwell showed up within 30 minutes of our call and corrected the problem ASAP. We do so hope that we can visit again and most certainly, we plan to revisit this charming cottage!

Summary: The Clifford Sawyer House is an amazing property. My family loved it! It’s right by the lower docks and Vernon’s. The kids loved the little pool and the loft area. It’s a beautiful historic house that’s be remodeled. We will definitely rent this property again!
