The town bus service picks up at the Esplanade and serves all points in the town including Lerwick’s two supermarkets, Shetland Museum and Archives, Mareel cinema and arts centre and the Viking Bus depot from which bus services depart to all Shetland’s outlying areas. Commercial Street is also home to the town’s many pubs, cafes and restaurants with a wide variety of dining choices to suit all tastes. Summary: Early arrival off ferry from Orkney gave us time at the south end of mainland, including puffins and lighthouse, Jarlshoff, & swim at St.Ninians isle. Scalloway castle closed, but museum worthwhile.Apartment very central, and well appointed. Rather noisy neighbour upstairs, but friendly folk throughout our stay.Worth booking table ahead at no.88 if cruise ship visiting.VisitingNorwegian boats for 80th Anniversary of VE Day were interesting(ShetlandBus)Shetland museum at far end of town well worth while.Spent day with James, watching otters on shoe on Yell. Magic!

Summary: I spent a week in Shetland with a friend and we had the most amazing time. Lots of hiking, swimming, wildlife adventures, history and culture, great food and incredible hospitality. The apartment was fantastic and we had an awesome week there. Great communication with James and Mandy. Easy check in, super comfortable beds, fantastic bathroom, well equipped kitchen and a washing machine which was great. Fabulous location and a short walk to shops, restaurants, ferry terminal, boat harbour and of course DCI Jimmy Perez’s house. James and Mandy were wonderful hosts and made our stay magical and memorable. Thank you so much. I do hope I get to come back again.
