Positive: Giuseppe is the highlight. Despite a lack of English which actually added to the charm, he was ready, translator in hand to meet our every need. The room was furnished in authentic castle decor. Beware if you get a room with a jet tub. It lacks a shower and is very slippery. The rooms are immaculate. Dinner or even lunch is an experience not to be missed. Easily the best quality and value we experienced in Calabria. Oh and the view from the castle is stellar
Negative: No screens, noisy ac and slippery jet tub which is impractical to use for bathing or showering
Summary: A luxurious back in time experience

Positive: Beautiful historic property with wonderful views. Giuseppe was a wonderful host. Rooms were large and beautiful with antiques furnishings. Breakfast was wonderful. Giuseppe recommended restaurants plus the restaurant at the hotel was very good.
Negative: Very steep access but that is what gave the expansive views.
Summary: When can you stay in an old castle in a small mountaintop town. Was amazing.

Positive: Castle Altomonte is an exceptionally well-maintained property with breathtaking views and friendly local business owners and local folk. The multi-tasking, efficient and knowledgeable Concierge Giuseppe welcomed us warmly and gave us a brief tour of the public areas of the castle. The Castle’s owner once served the nation in several governmental divisions and is charming, if you can converse with him in Italian. If you are not yet handy with Google translate, familiarize yourself with ‘voice mode’ and you’ll do just fine here.
Negative: Nothing. The stone and granite roadway to the castle is steep, so put the car in low drive just in case there’s an oncoming vehicle and you may need to slow your ascent. If you are a fan of walking, there is much to see and several good restaurants. However, the steep walk back to the Castle may not be for everyone.
Summary: Elegant, beautiful, unforgettable experience. Casual dress acceptable.
