Positive: Our weekend at Casa da Amendoeira in Castelo Rodrigo was amazing and a memory our family will hold onto for a long time. We rented all the bedrooms in the house, which worked out perfectly for us. It gave us plenty of space to spend time together while still having our own rooms to relax in. It felt cozy and comfortable, just like home. The house itself is beautiful. Each room is nicely decorated, super clean, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The shared spaces were perfect for hanging out as a family, whether we were chatting, playing games, or just enjoying some quiet time together. The host was fantastic – so friendly and welcoming. They made sure we had everything we needed and were always there to help with any questions or suggestions about things to do in the area. Their kindness really made a difference and made us feel so at home. Breakfast was a big highlight of the weekend. It was fresh, delicious, and had a great variety of options that everyone in the family enjoyed. From the local flavors to the homemade treats, it was a wonderful way to start each day. The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of Castelo Rodrigo. We loved walking around the village, exploring the old streets, and taking in the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It was peaceful, relaxing, and gave us the chance to slow down and really enjoy our time together.

Positive: The house had a lovely temperature, with heated floors in some of the rooms. The breakfast was very rich with local produce, super tasty. The location is gorgeous and the owners gave us excellent restaurant recommendations. The rooms had comfortable linen and pillows, very cosy. The staff, Ms Tânia was very nice and got us fresh flowers in the rooms, which I noticed after she tidy the rooms the next day. She was very thoughtful.

Negative: The house lacked privacy. We were 2 couples travelling, with 3 children amongst us, hoping to have a relaxing time. We booked 3 rooms (leaving one empty room) and there was no other guests at the house. There was staff in the common areas of the house the whole day until late at night (basically until everyone was in bed including adults), so we felt we were being watched at all times. It was very strange to be doing children's bed time with a strange looking at us. Although Ms Tânia was very nice, I think families should be made aware that the house has valuable items in display and so staff will stay in the common rooms to ensure it's safety. The lack of privacy spoiled the weekend and it did not meet our expectations. We have travelled a lot and stayed at great hotels and I had never experienced this lack of privacy. The house is indeed beautiful, but for families travelling with children it's not a comfortable setting.

Positive: Tania is great. In tricky circumstances, we felt really welcome. This was a very comfortable space for us as the only guests that night.

Negative: "Garden view" is bit of a, ahem, exaggeration. There is a window (very small) and there is something that might be called a garden outside the window. But... really... I don't see the need for estate-agent talk in a description of a hotel room.

Summary: Great location. Check out the cafe/bar just down the footpath. Low-key, relaxed, and convenient!
