Positive: Casa Awänímä is a peaceful haven and was just the break I needed in my trip. As soon as I stepped through the gates I felt welcomed and relaxed. The owner really makes you feel at home through giving you a full tour of the property and farm, the herbs and teaching you about their medicinal properties. Breakfast was so delicious and nutritious that we decided to stay for lunch too.
Negative: There are very limited dinner options in the area. No dinner is offered on site and when we tried to find food at around 7pm the only place was a small food vendor who only offered a vegetarian option of tacos with salad. I think there is a cafe which closes at 6pm but we weren't really informed of the lack of local dinner options when we check in so I was left quite hungry.

Positive: Casa Awänímä is a little oasis tucked away in Tzununa. Its a climb to get there but it is worth it for the peace and tranquility when you get there! The mission of the hotel and the facilities make this a wonderful place to stay. Nothing quite beats picking fresh herbs to enjoy for your morning tea with the view of the lake. There is a great yoga deck and cold plunge pool (and a traditional sauna for extra cost) as well as plentiful gardens to wander. The beds are really comfy and the room is beautifully curated. The food is wonderful and freshly prepared for guests. The mission behind Casa Awänímä is the heart of the place and is evident in every detail. Thoroughly recommend!
Negative: Just a note that for one of the rooms the shared toilet is an open-air compost toilet- it’s always clean and well serviced so wasn’t a problem (and fits well with the mission/ethos of the property!). It’s also a climb up the hill to get there, but you can grab a tuk-tuk when you get off the boat to easily get there! (It’s worth it)
Summary: An oasis with a mission in the heart of the lake! A wonderful place to stay.

Positive: My husband and I stayed at Casa Awanima in January. The road to Casa Awanima is not to be called a road, but a concoction of rocks and dirt. But once you enter through the gate, you are in a completely different world of calm, relaxation, and joy. It is so remarkable how Kenzie (absolutely wonderful host and the owner) made the piece of jungle into a piece of paradise. We stayed in the main house. The room has a huge balcony with a hammock and chairs, and most importantly the phenomenal view of the lake and surrounding volcanos. Even from your bed you can enjoy the perfect view of a sunrise on the lake. The room has a toilet and a sink. There is an outside shower that you reach by crossing an open door kitchen. Yes, it might be quite surprising for many of us- the kitchen has all the parts of the true kitchen, but it is fully open to the outside, no doors. If you want to make your own meal, all is at your disposal. But you also can indulge into fantastic local cuisine for breakfast and lunch enjoying wonderful view of garden, lake and volcano. The garden- it is so well maintained and so rich in various plants and herbs (which you can use for your morning omlet or cup of herbal tea) that you do not need to leave the property if you just want to relax and enjoy the day. There is beautiful deck for yoga and the best part - the sauna and a cold plunge which you can enjoy in a complete privacy. I booked this place for three nights without having prior reviews, and I am so happy to say that it exceeded my expectations. Five stars honestly!
