Positive: I love the quirky, "Olde Worlde" feel of this beautiful place. It's in a large woodland, but is not far at all from Ballater. Wish I could have spent more time exploring. Note to prospective guests: if you want slick and ultramodern, this is not somewhere I would recommend, but if you want character and quietness, this is the perfect place!

Negative: I didn't stay long enough!

Positive: Choose this if you are after something a little different. This hotel is unique in a very special way. At first you look and say "oh,oh" but then you realise that all its quirks are it's beauty. Ideally located if you like walks. Dog friendly throughout. Great drinks and gorgeous food. Absolutely loved our stay. I hope we'll be back here again some time.

Positive: This is an old and beautiful building that has been kept in as original a condition as possible. As charming as it is, the bed may need to be replaced as it was uncomfortable and squeaked with the slightest movement. The armchair also needs to be upholstered. Our room was very small. The view from the breakfast room is amazing and the breakfast was excellent. However, we had no view at all from our room, which was dark and overlooked the working shed.
