Positive: Warm welcome from the friendly owner,lots of chat & info. Offered a cooler room at the back of the hotel. Very comfy ,clean bed & sizeable bathroom with complimentary hospitality tray, soap & towels. Also plenty clothes storage if staying longer. Lounge to sit in as no TV in rooms.

Negative: Some things needed a clean. We had a cold choice breakfast with toast as there was a problem with the gas & awaiting repairs. Think it was overpriced at £125 a night.

Positive: I arrived late, and all the restaurants in the town were closed. The host offered me some food, such a lovely gesture. There was a stream next to the place, and it was calm and meditative feeling listening to the sound of the stream. Would definitely recommend his place, and if I am in the area, I will stay here again.

Positive: The host Graeme is absolutely fantastic, couldn’t be more helpful. We called to confirm our arrival time which was confirmed and Graeme later called us back to recommend some great local dinner options which we followed and were great! Beds were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. My 12 year old son managed venison salami, yoghurt, cereal and almost finished a full cooked breakfast. The area is stunning too. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back. Rare to find such a friendly and helpful host these days.

Positive: We had a great stay at Ben View Phoenix Hotel. Graham was such a bubbly and fantastic host, and he really made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. I arrived later than planned in the evening after a 12-hour trip from Norfolk, and Graham already had a dinner table ready for me. The kitchen was ready to start cooking straight away, which was very much appreciated after such a long journey. Yes, the place is a little rough around the edges, but the food was exceptional — hats off to the chef. The location was perfect for our work trip while we were working on the Glenborrodale Estate, and the parking was great too. The beds were okay, but what really stood out was how accommodating the staff were. We accidentally booked the room for two people when we meant to book for one, and Graham sorted it out with no problem at all. He refunded us the difference and found a fair way to make it work so that we were looked after, he didn’t lose out, and Booking.com still received their commission. I would definitely stay again.

Negative: The hotel is a little rough around the edges in places, and the beds were okay rather than great. That said, the excellent food, helpful staff, good parking, and perfect location more than made up for it.
